I guess here in NZ we are fortunate in so many ways and while we militarily support many (if not all) US actions in overseas theatres, it does give us an interesting perspective on American attitudes.
Watching CNN and other News channels, its often difficult to distinguish between say Iraqi, Afghanni or US citizens and their attitude to each other.
There are fanatics in both cultures (some even here on UHH at times). Who's to say who is right and who is wrong.

I have to admit, at times, while I value much that the USA contributes to the world, I wonder if 'you' have the right to impose our form of democracy on those who neither want it or understand it.
Many cultures are far older and have survived far longer than the Western culture.

Of course armed intervention (and invasion) will be met with like force and it is perhaps understandable that people will hate those that bomb them and kill not just their military but ordinary people as well.

The role of world policeman that the US has adopted is surely needed and at times well respected.
However there are times, more and more, that I think USA motivation is driven by politics, industry, money and of course Oil.

As the World evolves, with technology etc so to are the less advanced countries deveoping, with communications being so good now.

It is better, at times, for the strong to lead by example, rather than force.

Before I retired I worked with a gentleman who had emigrated from the former USSR. We discovered we had both been in the Navy at the same time; he in the USSR and I in the U.S. We ended up being the best of friends and it was hard to believe at one time might have been ordered to try and kill each other. 8-)

The truce in that film clip came about due to the will of the people involved. It ended due to the will of the governments involved.

If people are right and we have gone to war over oil; where is it? We compete in the world market just like everyone else to buy our oil. It could be said that is the American way; free choice and free enterprise. A concept that our current government is trying to destroy.

The first recorded use of a firearm was in 1364. Are you suggesting there were no wars before then? Perhaps you should bone up on world history.

Thanks for your perspective. As a retired military officer, I can assure you senior officers don't want war. Rather, our senior officer colleges emphasize the understanding of war in order to keep peace. Diplomacy, arbitration, compromise, and dialogue can accomplish so much more. Use of military must be as a last resort.

Most people don't know the word "hubris", but many required readings at senior service colleges decry America's hubris because of its deliterious effect on world opinion.

While we believe in a strong military, we are wont to use it.
