One of the most striking Christmas stories is surely that of the Christmas
truce in 1914 during the First World War, when, following cries of you no
shoot, we no shoot, British and German soldiers ventured into No Mans
Land to sing Christmas carols and exchange gifts and greetings.
It has been said that if it had been left to the soldiers the war would have ended there and then.
When the war did come to an end, on Armistice Day 1918, more than 15
million people had been killed.
As we all look at our world this Christmas of 2012 we should hope perhaps that the cry you no shoot, we no shoot will ring out again and that the soldiers voices are listened to.

There was a very moving tv film regarding this in blighty regarding this..............a german opera singer rose from the trench and started singing silent night,holding an illuminated christmas tree the troops responded singing in english. At some point a game of football ensued, but both governments had to hustle their troops to resume hostilities .............what a shame.

When has there benn no war on this rock?
As long as there are people that want to kill you, there will be war.
Some minority of muslim radicals want to eliminate free people, as long as this is the case, there will be war.
As long as commie toilets like N. Korea and Cuba and other little despot crap holes, It will be necessary for free people to unite and defend outselves from these people.
The mission of our military is to kill these people and brteak their stuff. Stated the Marine way, We provide these people to die for their country.

Before anyone even thinks to bash me for this Stop. I bleed America and cry at military funerals, but I have to ask - Don't you think they think the same about us? From their point of view aren't we the scum who want everyone to live under American law? Interesting that you say that.
I guess here in NZ we are fortunate in so many ways and while we militarily support many (if not all) US actions in overseas theatres, it does give us an interesting perspective on American attitudes.
Watching CNN and other News channels, its often difficult to distinguish between say Iraqi, Afghanni or US citizens and their attitude to each other.
There are fanatics in both cultures (some even here on UHH at times). Who's to say who is right and who is wrong.
I have to admit, at times, while I value much that the USA contributes to the world, I wonder if 'you' have the right to impose our form of democracy on those who neither want it or understand it.
Many cultures are far older and have survived far longer than the Western culture.
Of course armed intervention (and invasion) will be met with like force and it is perhaps understandable that people will hate those that bomb them and kill not just their military but ordinary people as well.
The role of world policeman that the US has adopted is surely needed and at times well respected.
However there are times, more and more, that I think USA motivation is driven by politics, industry, money and of course Oil.
As the World evolves, with technology etc so to are the less advanced countries deveoping, with communications being so good now.
It is better, at times, for the strong to lead by example, rather than force.
