It is the "super majority" that matters here, and the Democrats have finally reached this in the recent election. What Republicans want has now become inconsequential in California politics. They can no longer be the paralyzing obstructionists that they have been for a number of years, now that the Democrats have a "super majority."Check out:

You are absolutely wrong about this. There has been a block by Republicans in the California legislature for a number of years. Time and time again the Republicans have prevented progressive legislation that the Democrats wanted. May I remind you that some types of legislation require a 2/3 (or is it just 60% ? I forget which.) majority. This is what the Republicans have voted against and prevented from being put into law. Perhaps you are just unfamiliar with California politics. Your assessment of absolute control by the Democrats is simply not true.

The California Legislature, both the Senate and the Assembly, have been in Democratic hands 41 out of the last 42 years since 1970. That isn't opinion, those are the facts.

My opinion is that if those Democrats could not pass their "progressive" legislation due to the minority party in both houses of the legislature for 41 out of 42 years than the California Democratic Party is a farce.

In actuality, California has enacted progressive Democratic legislation for years which has bankrupted the state.

It is ironic that you begin a thread contending that the Republican Party is "falling to pieces" yet somehow, these same Republicans can prevent the Democrats from passing their agenda. Perhaps the only way the Democrats can accomplish anything is via a dictatorship. 8-)

I have already posted some of the accomplishments over Obama's first term. Record numbers on food stamps, poverty rate climbing, blacks poorer now than thirty years ago. I only wish these folks could afford to buy "The New New Deal." Perhaps you could read it to some of them so they realize how well off they have become. 8-)

Ahh, I got it now, Democrats can not do anything without a "supermajority." Majorities are just not good enough for them. Thank goodness the Republican Presidents and legislatures have been able to accomplish so much throughout history with simple majorities or even being the minority party.

Well, I guess you will no longer fault Mr. Bush for any economic problems, as his party never had a "supermajority" while he was in office. In fact, during his last two years the Democrats controlled Congress. Those pesky Democrats must have stopped the Republicans from getting anything done! 8-)

It truly is an uplifting experience witnessing your positive attitude concerning California's new political "freedom". Hopefully you can convince the thousands upon thousands of California residents who moved to Nevada in recent years (probably to escape the Republican obstructionists) to return to their home state and enjoy the progress. We are tired of them living here.
Perhaps you could also return the water we send you guys from the Colorado River, and electricity from the Hoover Dam. It would allow you greater pride in your new "independence".
In the meantime, the rest of us will watch (from a safe distance) your unstoppable progress into the future.

Addendum: Obama won...we're over it!

It takes more than 3 1/2 years to clean up the mess W caused -- a good deal of which is set out there -- especially with Republican obstructionists trying to prevent the solving of many of these problems. For example, preventing passage of the jobs bill, which probably would have put a million Americans back to work.

Please recall the stated Republican object: to prevent Obama from having a second term. Well, get used to it, because you Republicans lost the presidential election. Now we will see some real butt kicking !

Goodness gracious! You certainly are opinionated. Where were your posts before the election ????

There is a new difference between what you cite and the actuality. For the first time in decades, the legislature is totally controlled by the Democrats, so progress will not be blocked any more by the Republicans. The voters had enough of the Republican nay-saying and have stopped their veto control. So we shall progress. So your statements that Democrats have "run" California for years is quite wrong. NOW we Democrats run it.

Who ranked California as the worst-run state ? I hadn't heard that one before. Please give us your source.

A few months ago the New York Times listed Oakland as one of the best cities to live in. If I can find the exact citation I shall post it.

The Democrats have run the state of California for years and years, run it right into the ground. California was recently ranked as the worst run state in the United States and Oakland is consistently ranked in the top ten most crime ridden cities. But if you are happy there that is all that counts. Good luck with your new (old) governor and hope you don't go bankrupt. 8-)

Unfortunately Richard when Jesus Christ and his Lieutenants took command of the Republican Party its fate was sealed. And when Barack Obama took control of the Democratic Party our economy was doomed. Perhaps Barack and Jesus could hold hands while singing Amazing Grace and together watch our ship sink beneath the ocean and into hell.

Danilo, you are so right. We need the water and we don't need more people moving here. So California, with it's "great economy", can take care of itself.

As a non-US secular person I was relieved that the world was saved from another war in the middle east and the inevitable crimes aganst humanity. Obama is slightly more sane.i
