He might as well ask for software on a stack of punch cards. This is January 2024. It doesn't work that way anymore. Period. Everyone pointing to this unrealistic expectation are being as helpful as possible.

Not true. Elements is still available on disc.

That immediately requires the online registration and download of all software updates from the internet..... The disk alone is worthless.

I would like to find a very simple photo editing software program, on cd-rom for Mac computer. Really it has to be very simple program because I have mental block when it comes to computers. I don’t like email formats. I take photos of my family and friends and some landscapes, I just want to improve the quality of my photos and erase unwanted images. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Photoshop is very simple to use. It even comes with tutorials.

That is why I said to forget CD. It is quite hard to find SW on CD these days and CD makes a free trial impractical at best. I know he asked for CD but he also admits to low skill level on computer. Any Mac with a built-in CD reader is very old, btw. For that you need a separate device. I have one and use it maybe every two years at most.

Sometimes it is a kindness to suggest that the OP's request needs a bit more info.

Another recommendation here for Photoshop Elements. There are some very useful books for it and plenty of help via YouTube.

Is photoshop elements worth the price or photoshop better. What are the advantages of one over the other.
I prefer not to pay a monthly fee but if advantageous I would

Thanks, I have been using this program for a long time, but I would like to work with a program to be able to erase distractions off my main subject, adding more dramatic sky and ocean colors, improving facial blemishes and just a little more from Apple photos, and yet I’m too lazy to make an effort on one of the programs available with a little work. Thank you for your response.

That's going to require that you learn a more complex program; the simple ones don't do what you are asking for.

I have used Elements since 2006, Version 3, I believe. It currently costs about $70-$100. Once you buy it, you can install it on two computers. Once you have it, it is a perpetual license. Adobe comes out with a new version every year, but you don't need to upgrade that often. I usually buy a new one every 5 years. I also buy a plug-in, not from Adobe, called Elements+ for $12 which gives me much of the functionality of full Photoshop for when I need it, which I usually don't. I do buy an annual license for Topaz Photo AI which plugs in and is extremely useful.

If you are "too lazy" to learn another program then you are just SOL. What you want to do can be done relatively easy in LrC and/or Photoshop. But that can be a deep dive.

Photoshop is way too much for what the OP is asking for. Lightroom will do all of it but it's not so easy to understand either since it's not just an editing program but also a cataloguing system. I can't remember what they call it but Adobe makes a photoshop lite program and has for years. It does a lot of the editing without all the layers and masks etc. Someone may know what I mean. Or maybe they don't make it anymore. I searched but couldn't find it. I'm talking about the software they used to make that was essentially a lite weight photoshop, all simplified for the occasional user, not the pro.

edit - Photoshop Elements is the software I was thinking of. It'll do everything you want and it doesn't take a PhD in software engineering to understand it. and ... I believe you can get it in a box with a disk.

Agree. I have a DVD writer/reader and a stack of blank DVDs somewhere out in the garage. I can't remember the last time I used them. Maybe 10 years ago. The best deal going is Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for $9.99 a month. It's worth it even if I rarely use it. When you subscribe, which is how it's done now, you always have the latest software. They are constantly improving it. Something you had 5 years ago is like driving a Model A compared to a 2024 Lexus. Things are getting better and easier to use all the time. I'd suggest to the OP, Elements is likely to be your best bet but you may have to consider subscribing.

Ask here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-116-1.html The people who moderate this UHH section are all very accomplished editors and should be able to make suggestions of a program to fit your needs.

Well maybe re read what you just wrote.
There are many dozens of of editing applications available, but None will work without investing some time and effort to Learn the Application- which you say you are too lazy to do.
I do understand how computers and software can be daunting or confusing . Put simply your desire to do ‘more’ with photo editing needs to be greater than your aversion to work. If it is not, nothing will work. And you will just waste money & time.
Having said that, you might try one on one instruction—- a local high school teacher, community college
But if all that sounds like too much work , save your money.
Btw Macs haven’t had a CD rom in about a decade. So if yours has one , it probably will not run modern software. Pick the instructor first they will help you download software.

You figured out Photos right?
Good luck

Why do you need it on CD-ROM? Most programs are just downloaded online.

Your program will probably need to deal with masks and layers. They are found in many programs, but there is a learning curve for all such programs.

Most distractions can be removed with the clone tool, I've never needed masks & layers though I'm sure they would have helped me often. I suspect the existing Apple Photos can manage this :)
Changing skies might barely be possible with clone but it would not be practical. Complex software will certainly be needed for that.

If CD-rom is the only acceptable installation route then I think you're limited to second hand discs, probably from the best part of 10 years ago! Finding what you want this way will be far more effort than learning to download.

I generally use a basic editing tool (FastStone) but unfortunately thats PC only, so I have to fire up my laptop (my normal computer at home is a Raspberry Pi - running a version of Unix)
