Is the Nikon 80 to 400 a good telephoto to use on the Nikon D850 I would like to hand hold sometimes. Also what are good lenses for the 959 for general shooting like in the ⛰️

Not sure about the 959 but the 80-400mm is an excellent lens for your D850.
Very hand holdable, it was intended to be hand holdable.

You're going to get what you pay for. The 80-400 is going to be more useful for general purpose photograph, including both landscapes and wildlife, where the 400mm focal length leverages the high pixel density (46MP) of the D850. The 200-500 is going to be more serious (aka useful) for wildlife and sports, in brighter lighting due to the max (and constant) f/5.6 aperture. 400mm is really just the minimum for wildlife photography on a full-frame body. Lenses with longer focal lengths and / or the ability to extend via a teleconverter are even more useful for wildlife and midfield action in sports.

In my opinion after owning both the 80-400 and the 200-500 Nikkor lenses on the D850, I have found the 200-500 aquires focus faster and has further reach than the 80-400, the 200-500 is also 5.6 throughout it's zoom range, I have also experienced sharper images with the 200-500. These are my findings and others may be different.
I also used GROUP AUTO FOCUS, continuous auto focus when shooting birds in flight.

PS. I used to hand hold that lens without issue, I carried it around by reversing the tripod collar and using it as a handle.

I have the first edition and I absolutely love it on my D300s where it is a 120-600. If money were no object then yes it would be nice to have the longer (awkward) and heavier 200-500, but I love my old slow AF-D super zoom and have taken tons of great pics with it. But with the D type focusing being lackadaisical at best she isn’t ideal for BIF, just ideal to me.

I've owned both versions, and the newer 80-400G version is a better lens, especially at wider apertures in the corners. However, stopped down, the "D" version does perform very nicely.

My version is version 1 or the D lens. I use it more often with my D7000 and within its limitations I get outstanding results. I bet the new version with VR does better. You can use either lens with FX bodies also.
When you talk about "good lenses" I have to assume you are talking about "sharp lenses." Do not get obsessed with sharpness because sharpness depends a lot more on you than on the lens. I am trying to say that your technique will reveal the lens sharpness and today it is very difficult to find a lens that will not render sharp images.

I shoot both 80-400 and 200-500 with D850's. Hands down, the better lens is the 80-400. That being said, it depends on the subjects you shoot most often and your shooting techniques. If you are impatient and do a lot of stalking, and want to shoot from a farther distance, and your subjects don't require fast focusing, the 200-500 is a decent lens. On the other hand, if you enjoy shooting landscape, and wildlife(including some birds), with a handheld ability, the 80-400 is the way to go.
I shoot almost exclusively with a tripod, so technique has to be emphasized much more. If you are just looking for a zoom with longer reach, the Sigma 150-600 is a very good lens. It provides you with 200mm more zoom than the 80-400. Just something to consider.

I want to use this lens for outside. Nature but not necessarily birds. I also want to shoot from the back of a church to the front to get a little better shots. I use a 28 to 300 on. My 610 and if it is kind dark I go up to ISO of 3200. With. 5.6 f stop . I understand that the 850 has even a higher iso so I was hoping that the new lens would work better on the 850
