Images and Comments..... I'm Just Curious!

Both are critiques. Why is one okay and the other not?
Neither is a critique.
They are all your subjective opinion except, possibly "out of focus." Even then, you have to know for sure what the photographer's intent was.

I was quite sensitive to perceived criticisms in my early years here. After a few years of conditioning, I no longer have personal issues. I still occasionally wonder what motivates some people to be rude, negative or snarky and to believe that whatever they say is
The Truth. But I don't wonder for very long. Life has become too precious to care about that nonsense.
We spend so much time talking about better cameras rather than creating better images.

The problem is that many critiques here are not meaningful help from experienced photographers. They are no more than reactions and opinions from inexperienced learners who are no more accomplished than the photographer who posted the image.
I am happy to receive comments and suggestions from people I know, understand and respect, even if their approach and oreferences do not match mine. But my interest in the opinion of an anonymous person whose background and level of expertise is unknown to me is somewhere between extremely limited and nonexistent. That's one of the reasons I don’t post images here very often.
The problem is that many critiques here are not me... (

And, they don't "feel" the picture like the photographer did.

~ So, today someone posted a flower image (one of many - every day, and I'm also guilty). The Poster was
VERY proud of their image and said so in the Title and Body of the text in their post. I personally was not enamored with how the image was processed, so I refrained from posting my thoughts on said image.
...However, one poster actually did post, that while it was a very nice image, in his/her opinion was a bit over-saturated (even stating it was still a nice image)!
Oh, My!! What a Faux Pas that was!! The original poster tore that person up in no uncertain terms! How DARE that someone have an opinion of his/her work other than
Praises from On High!!
~ So,
I'm just curious. Why is the
Photo Gallery Off Sides to
Any critical review?
I DO understand that there is a critique section on UHH. So, then, do we always have to
Ooooo and Aaahh at images in the
Photo Gallery? We must all support images good or bad and save all our Heart Emojis and Thumbs - Up's for images that are borderline if not outright poorly done? I know for a fact that my own images need a lot of work, so I'm def not the Golden Boy/Girl here!
Anybody?

Interesting comments here. Especially from the self appointed expert critics on a purely subjective activity.
The Photo Gallery is full of ad nauseum vacation posts 1. 2, 3..... of the same place, pets, grandkids etc. Thank God the birds were removed or it would be even worse.
But the above said because that is what the Photo Gallery is all about and is not a place for so called, purely subjective reviews by self appointed experts.
It is just to enjoy the FUN of sharing snapshots at all levels without judgement. If a subjective critique is desired it will go to the appropriate section for such.
I enjoy looking and if really moved etc. will comment or add a smiley.
So I will keep posting there my simple snapshots that I like and ignore the negative critiques that are unsolicited and by those who are clueless regarding the photo presented. I like them, I like MY cropping I like all else or I will not post it.
Hey Sippy, love your close ups.

ditto for the “Photo Contests and Challenges” Section.

So the person who said the flower was over saturated was not critiquing the photo but offering his subjective opinion, and thus was within the rules of the Photo Gallery section.

there are ways of saying things. Instead of declaring that something is over saturated, I would say something like “the flower seems over saturated to my eyes”.

Exactly.
Saturation is purely subjective.
There is NO proper saturation standard that I am aware of.
You pose the comment in a good way.
There are cameras that as a matter of design seem way over saturated SOC to me but others like the look and that is their choice and desire.

I went to your link and found you had posted an image in, "For Your Consideration".
I had totally forgotten about that section. It sure seems like a better place than the "Photo Gallery" for folks who want to critique everything.

I don’t know about other brands, but for Pentax, marketers seem to have a lot of voice in to setting default parms. After taking a few shots, I adjust the parms, then adjust them more as I find my self making PP adjustments.
Mine amble also Lynda. My Crop to the story works best on other people photos,
... Actually the voice is Robert Rostick's at TBCC. [

The comments on what we are to see is best directed by a simple image Title, it points the direction for our mind's-eye. There is a photo by "Michael feather Frame" which is a visual cacophony of color until we are directed to see the face in Mask of pain.

This was the original comment that the poster found objectionable:
“I like your work and have been following your postings recently. I like bold, sharp, saturated colors particularly set against a dark background. But I've got to be honest, your sense for saturation in yellow colors exceeds mine. Still like it a lot but would back off a bit if it were mine. Nice job.”
