~ So, today someone posted a flower image (one of many - every day, and I'm also guilty). The Poster was VERY proud of their image and said so in the Title and Body of the text in their post. I personally was not enamored with how the image was processed, so I refrained from posting my thoughts on said image.
...However, one poster actually did post, that while it was a very nice image, in his/her opinion was a bit over-saturated (even stating it was still a nice image)! Oh, My!! What a Faux Pas that was!! The original poster tore that person up in no uncertain terms! How DARE that someone have an opinion of his/her work other than Praises from On High!!
~ So, I'm just curious. Why is the Photo Gallery Off Sides to Any critical review? I DO understand that there is a critique section on UHH. So, then, do we always have to Ooooo and Aaahh at images in the Photo Gallery? We must all support images good or bad and save all our Heart Emojis and Thumbs - Up's for images that are borderline if not outright poorly done? I know for a fact that my own images need a lot of work, so I'm def not the Golden Boy/Girl here!

Anybody?

If anyone's ego is that fragile, we should pay no attention to their rants. Carry on.

Well, there is a section called Photo Analysis. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-20-1.html

When I post a picture here, I'm not asking for criticism or how I could have made it better. If I wanted that, I would have posted it in Photo Analysis. In my opinion - and I haven't seen the thread - the commenter shouldn't have added criticism, and the poster shouldn't have replied in a hostile way. As I said, I haven't seen either.

If I show someone my new car, I don't want him to tell me all the bad things he's heard about it. Before buying the car, I would ask for opinions. I could give an example of introducing my girlfriend to someone, but you get the idea.

I've seen many photos posted that are really bad. It just boils down to in todays world people are afraid to hurt ones feelings.

I don't have time to view every Photo Gallery image, every day. When I do, if someone asks (states) they'd like comments, only those will I offer come critical help and actionable feedback. Otherwise, I comment just on those images I like too.

BTW, the image in question isn't even in focus where it should be ....

Photo Gallery is supposed to be a non judgmental place where anyone can post their work.
Comment on what you like ignore what you don't like

On one site, I had posted a photo, to point out something that I impressed by. The first reply was: "Whoever sold you that camera should be put in jail. Most cameras can do a better job on its own, and yet you were able to defeat it's capabilities!"

My reply was "Whut?"

I agree that if you post a photo you are open to critique of it. Many very capable photographers are on this site and usually offer criticism that is intended to help the person who posted and anyone else that may have the same need for corrections to improve their skills with photography.

To use an old saying, "If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen!"

You don't have to do or say anything.

Some criticisms, no matter how carefully and courteously written, may not be well received by some people. Some of those who think they have something constructive to say can be just as "guilty" of carrying a fragile ego. There is always the option of sending a private message if the critiquer just can't stand to be quiet.

If the photographer doesn't ask for feedback in Photo Gallery, and it isn't worth positive reinforcement or an outright wow, just move on.

The very first line of the "Photo Gallery" rules:

This section is for posting pictures you took. If you want to ask others to comment on your choice of subjects, composition, settings, show off your pictures to others, or ask for general critique, then please do so in the Photo Gallery section.

Hope that explains things. The rules for each section are at the top of the first page for that section!!!!

I agree that criticism in the Photo Gallery should only go to those who ask for it. But complaining about too much saturation is very subjective. It isn't like out of focus, blur, blown highlights, etc. which are obvious flaws. Saturation is a matter of taste, and some seem to feel that any more saturation than was originally there is too much.

Please point to the rule that says criticism and/or critiques are not allowed.

Yes, personal likes and dislikes of the viewer are often confused with "critique" by most of us on UHH - because we've never been instructed on the proper way to critique an image.

The photographer just needs to remember that "If it were mine, I'd do such and such..." has no relation to critique and is only of value to the photographer if he/she is not 100% satisfied with the image they shared.

I just read the posts to which you were referring. It seems the OP's reaction to the comment about his yellows was inappropriate and way over the top. It seemed especially nasty considering the post being responded to was generally very complimentary. I found it to be a very nice photograph, but I guess posting anything even slightly critical to someone who is tooting their own horn is a risky endeavor.

Especially, if everyone in their FB group gave equally glowing praise ...

Exactly. I personally like the photo with it saturated colors and velvety background, but I certainly did not appreciate the way he reacted to that comment.
