I have many clinical slides which I no longer need.
One of the items not allowed by Shredding stores are Transparencies.
Is there an efficient way of destroying them?
Thanks, David

Buy a home shreader.
Mine does credit cards so should handle slides.
Could be long process.
I have slides from my dental office

I do not know where you are located, but there are entities that do "recycle to energy" or "disposal to energy" by incinerating materials at very high temperatures. You might see if there is such an operation near you and if they would accept your transparencies.

I suspect that the initial transparencies will just wrap around the cutting teeth of a home shredder, leading to subsequent jams. I made a big mess with ours by not pulling out window envelopes a few years ago. Had to buy a new shredder...the old one was not recoverable. I suspect this is why the big boys won't accept them.

Why not just burn them.

Unless they are of a personal or embarrassing or otherwise compromising nature, why not give them to a thrift store. Some folks enjoy looking at other people's images. Several years ago I got a collection of slides from Banff and other Canadian national parks. This played a large part in my decision to visit these parks years later. But if you are insisting on getting rid of your slides, then just send them out with your regular trash.

My shreader was cheap staples model. Had separate credit card slot. Slide would go there
Afraid to ask # of slides.
Are patients name on slide? Big time HIPPA
then.

Mine too. But the credit cards are rigid. The transparencies are flexible. Not the same cutting mechanics.

You are absolutely correct. Maybe next time I will try to actually read the post before commenting. While I enjoyed looking at the slides of Banff, I doubt if I would have found much interest in checking out a bunch of clinical slides. I accept having been put straight.

It does not take high heat to burn film, just stay clear of the fumes

Look up shredding companies like Shred It or Iron Mountain. They shred documents and such for businesses.

Put in the kitchen garbage bag and the garbage truck picks them up and puts into land fill safely to never be seen again.
No shredding necessary.
