My wife, daughter, and I stayed in New York City in April 2019. The weather was perfect. I carried my camera everywhere. Felt safe in Manhattan during pretty much all hours of the day. We took the subway everywhere and it was awesome. Northwest Queens where we stayed definitely felt a little shadier.

We saw a lot of popular sites within Manhattan and I got some good pictures. That said, my favorite activities there were a walking food tour and the theaters. It’s a photographic mecca, but remember to enjoy the experience of the place.

I guess it would be a bad idea to have a car there as there is no place to park am I right?

Correct…a car is useless for touring the City. As others have said, you’re better off staying across the Hudson in Hoboken or Jersey City and using public trans to get to mid-town or downtown (Wall St. area). The Fall is a great time to visit as is the T’sgiving-Christmas season but it’s crowded and more expensive. If you’re adventurous, check out the Long Island City area just a subway stop over the 59th St (Queensboro) Bridge. There are a number of smaller hotels there and you’ll get great views of the skyline and you’re only 10 minutes from mid-town.

No, the facts support my conclusion.
When you look at crime figures, you need to look at the per-capita figures, not the whole figure.
Example.
NYC is one of the greatest cities in the world, but if you prefer, you can always visit other places, but there is nothing in this country that compares to NYC.

New York City is safe. New York City is the United States' most populated city with 8.42 million people, and it's the safest big city according to the FBI.
Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ranks New York City as the 9th safest city worldwide just after Paris.

Some of you have never been further than the local Dunkin Donuts and think that Applebees is fine dining. To those people, I suggest you visit Jacksonville Fl.

Additionally, the photographer in you will find this to be an amazing opportunity. Whether, it's The Top of The Rock, The Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty and the Wall Street Bull, you will be amazed by what this great location has to offer.

As I read all the comments written by people who've never been here, never experienced the energy or the friendliness of the people, all I can say is that I feel sorry for them.
Let those people hide in the woods in Colorado or the swamps of Florida and leave NYC for those of you that want a once in a lifetime experience.

Come to New York. You will not regret it.
No, the facts support my conclusion. br When you... (show quote)

I'm with Frank on this. I've been to London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Madrid, Amsterdam, Munich, etc., etc., etc. NYC is an incredible city, and if you have the chance--go!

You can choose to believe the facts: it is a safe city (any city, simply by virtue of the number of people, is going to have some bad characters).

Or you can choose to believe the opinions.

Seems to be a theme in today's society.

I don't mind going to NYC but not at the price for rooms at the time I want to go there
I don't want to go there for my anniversary in December when it's on September 11th.

Then go some other time and choose another place to celebrate your anniversary.

And unfortunately, I don't see it getting any better in 5 years.

Are you trying to get an otherwise informative thread sent to the Attic?
