to JerryC41 and other New Yorkers.
I intend to visit NY city for like a week. When is the best time?
The summer is hot and humid.
I think you'll find it best in October and if you can, around Christmas when the city is a playground for everyone.

I lived in NYC for 4 years. The weather is a crapshoot. I agree that the summers can be unbearable. The winters can be uncomfortably cold, and you can find yourself in snow up to your knees or higher. The rest of the time can be nice, or it can rain incessantly. There is no right answer. Take your chances, but I totally agree with avoiding the summer months unless you like sweating.

Agreed. The Fall and Christmas are beautiful in NYC. Just be careful as the law is not enforced too vigorously in the city.
…spring and fall…end of May-beginning of June…we have just gone through two beautiful weeks where the evening and morning hours are in the high 40’s and low 50’s making it wonderful to sleep and the slight breeze brings smells of lilac and honeysuckle (and hummingbirds)…the daytime temperatures have been mostly 72°…September and October are wonderful months to watch the season color changes…with similar type weather…slightly chilly in the mornings but warming up in the afternoon…both these seasons kids are still in school and the city seems less crowded…especially on Sunday…!

Thank you and and thank you all that have replied. I think the Fall would be as I don't think I want to deal with winter in NY. What do you mean by the law not enforced which mean I would have more freedom to do things or you think there may be more crime?

NYC gets a rap that isn't justified. According to the FBI, NYC is the safest big city in America.
Just use common sense. As a tourist, I'm sure you won't be wandering into any of the city's high-crime areas.
Just use common sense and enjoy one of the greatest cities in the world.

Not sure how much time Frank T spends in NY but he's apparently ingested some of mayor Adam's Kool Aid. I spent 40 years there and believe me most of what you hear is true. In addition to the traditional muggings/shootings you now have a chance of simply being smashed in the face for no apparent reason while doing your "touristy" things.
And the sad part is there are no longer "high crime areas". People get shot/accosted on every corner of the city.
Oh, and don't forget the newest thing- getting pushed off the subway tracks while waiting for a train. Now I'm not saying everyone who visits the city has a problem. But it certainly is crime ridden with the authorities doing less and less each day to improve the situation
Just one man's opinion

I live in NYC. I was a cop in NYC. I worked security for hotels and hospitals in NYC.
I'm pretty well-versed in what's going on in NYC.
First of all thanks for your service. A NYC cop has to be one of the toughest jobs around.
Things change over the years. Again, it used to be a great place to live. IMHO not anymore.

Can you really believe the FBI? They've lost all their credibility in my opinion. I've lived here for over 60 years and never seen it so bad. I would never use an expensive camera in the open. Maybe in 5 years things will get better.

Since your armed, NYC may be a cakewalk for you. Other New Yorkers aren't that fortunate.

Ollieboy brings up a good point. The FBI has been turned into a political weapon. Along with the Justice Dept and IRS
And unfortunately, I don't see it getting any better in 5 years.
Since our anniversary is 9/11 the wife and I wanted to go see the 9/11 memorial about 10 years ago.the motels around or near Central Park were around $150 per nigjt at the time so I called to get a room way in advance but those same rooms were $500 per night between 9/5 -9/23. A seven day stay would cost us about about $4,000 with taxes.for $2,800 we traveled to Hawaii and that included the plane, to and from the sirport, the flowers, and the hotel.i don't know if we will ever travel to NYC around our anniversary.

Definitely more crime. Be careful of your surroundings, especially in the subway. Mentally disturbed people are everywhere, and some are dangerous.
