This is starting to get bit boring. People are expecting this to be a D850 killer and maybe it will be. The hope that it will be a credible baby Z9 as well, is the reason it's so highly anticipated by some. However, the real D850 can still be purchased new for $2,800 at B&H and will still give shooters the same stunning results It did before all this hoopla started.

Mind you I am a mirrorless shooter and enjoy the advantages that mirrorless gives me, but the Z8 speculation is just over the top.

The price of the Z8 Will probably be at least $1,000 more than the D850. So much unnecessary hype about a product that hasn't even been announced yet.

Would you have it any other way? Remember the anticipation for the D850? For the D500?

That will be a wonderful thing, if the picture is really of the Z8 and the price is really $3599. A great move for Nikon and perhaps a great opportunity for me. But I don't buy based on rumors. We'll have to see what the reality turns out to be. For now, I'm looking forward to May 10.

I agree, we will really know on May 10th. But it does make sense after Nikon underpriced the Z9 vs its direct competitors, the Canon R3 and Sony A1.

The Sony A7RV is $3899 USD list price , the Canon R5 is $3699 USD list price.(they may be cheaper on sale). Those two camera are the direct competitors to the Nikon Z8 at a reported $3599 USD list.

Cheers and best to you.

Oh Nikon, how deep the fall.
Rumors are all over the internet. The proposed price point will be around $5K, and once a vertical grip is added, your close to the cost of the Z9.
Many compare it to the Sony A7r5, really? the Sony is around $3900.00, that is no comparison. And the Sony has a mechanical and electronic shutters, Nikon will only have an electronic shutter. (which is not bad)
Rest assured Nikon fans, what ever they bring out will not be available for at least a year.
Sony is bringing out several models in June, and rest assured Sony fans, you WILL be able to get those models when they are introduced. Same for Canon fans.
PS. Where is the Nikon 200-600mm lens they said would be introduced in 2020? Maybe they will also announce that too on May 10th, probably available in 2025.
Again, OH Nikon, how deep the fall.

...someday a major player in choose-your-industry will grow a set and stop the "99" nonesense.

If it's boring to you, why do you continue to bore everyone else?

Seems like it could be beneficial to those still lusting for an 850 ... likely to further reduce the pricing on SLRs.

I was fortunate to get my Z6, a refurbed remainder, direct from Nikon, dirt cheap cuz it was loooong after the Z6 mkII had become mainstream. We scavengers are critical to any ecosystem, and so we get appropriately well rewarded for that ;-)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My latest scavengers reward is a Nikon 14-30/4.0 S, directly out of the display cabinet, basically untouched by human hands, brand new for $430.
And Nikon has announced that the price of the Z8 will be $3599.00? Please give us the Nikon website that has stated this. Thank you in advance.
Canon stalwart Ordinary Filmmaker believes the Nikon Z9 will be priced at $3899 USD, not $3599 USD, and explains why:
Nikon Z8: Priced to Shock or Fake?
IMHO, $3899 USD would still be an excellent price for the Z8. That would be the same current list price as the Sony A7RV and Canon R5 list prices (though Canon has a $200-off sale on the R5 now for a price of $3699 USD, and the Sony A7RV can also be had for less than its list price of $3899 USD.)
Cheers and best to you all.
If you follow the link you will see it is just rumored from a few Non Official Nikon sources that price of $3599. Look at the video I have posted from Ordinary Filmmaker about his belief that the Z8 price will be $3899 USD, not $3599 USD.
No one truly believes the price will be anywhere close to $5000 USD, that higher price would doom the Z8 in the marketplace. IMHO, Nikon would NOT be that dumb here after underpricing the Z9. That underpricing helped sell that excellent Z9.
As you know, it is NOT unusual for some sites, other than official sites, to get leaks of correct prices and specs of upcoming gear. They dont always get it right, but sometimes they do get it right.
Cheers and best to you.
And several Non Official Nikon sources say the price will be higher than that.
But of course, only Nikon knows for sure, and they haven't shown their cards yet.
IMHO, it would doom the Z8 in the marketplace if the price was near $5000 like you and some believe. If the price was $5000, Nikon might as well not bother releasing it at all IMHO. I personally believe Nikon will continue the business practice of underpricing its top Z cameras to spur on sales, as it tries to compete with the fullframe mirrorless sales leaders Sony and Canon.
Cheers
The Nikon Z8 Facebook group is showing save the date announcements for May 10th, with a countdown clock, sent to NPS members and others promising a big announcement. It's also at the top of the Nikonusa webpage.
Remains to be seen.
Around 2015, Canon advertised a big announcement coming. Everyone knew that we {I was a Canon user at the time} were hoping for their first MILC with EVF - but it was just ‘marketing thing’. Nikon users had a good belly-laugh at our expense. I hope this will not turn out to be a case of Karma returning.
We"ll just have to see. I think the demand for $5000-$6000 cameras has been satisfied by the Z9 and its competitive models. I know that I don't swim in that pool or run with that crowd. Because I already have several excellent cameras that actually satisfy pretty much every need, I'm interested at $3500, iffy at $3800, out at $4000 or more. And that's regardless of how great a camera it turns out to be.
I understand your perspective here. As far as most buyers might look at this, coming in under $4000 IMHO is the key if this Z8 is to have great sales. $3599 is better, but $3899 might still garner a lot of interest if the specs hold up and real-world test results are excellent. Having that same 45mp stacked-sensor as the Z9 is a big plus.
I agree with you, many will be out of interest if it costs more than $4000 USD.
Cheers and best to you.
