flip totally hear you on this... I've had several copies of the AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6D and it's been my backup lens for location work for years now. Likely one of the fastest focusing Nikkors on my Pro build D3x which I've had the pleasure to use, and it's diminutive size when zoom back to 70mm makes it a very petite option for carrying on location gigs.

The robust build quality of the D3x and AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6D means they will likely continue to age very gracefully...

There is a size comparison of Nikon Z8 with Sony A7R Mark V with the lenses here, Sony with the lenses has even bigger size advantage:
