Oh, they stopped supporting my 13 year old camera years ago.

I never needed any support with any of my five various cameras since 1972.

One of the young photographers I mentor just bought a used Canon 5D MKII. Its good used price fit his small budget.

I just looked and the 5D MkII is NO longer supported for any repairs by Canon, and the 5D MkIII will lose its Canon support in 2024. I hate to tell this photographer, but I have to let him know the facts.

Here is the list of Canon cameras already discontinued from any Canon support. Again you will have to translate the page unless you read Japanese. Goggle can do it instantly.

Cheers and best to you all.

Sounds logical.
I will bet other makers do the exact same thing.

Canon has always had time-limits for support of various models and product tiers. One would think someone with the vast and oft-noted experience in the photography industry would be well-aware of this policy. I don't understand such a novice-level post and shock.

Interestingly, I just checked Sony's oldest ILCA, DSLR, LST, ILCE and NEX camera models, and Sony's USA Authorized repair facility, Precision Camera Repair in Enfield, Connecticut stills repairs all of them.

I know some older Nikon DSLRs no longer are supported for repairs as a few of my die-hard Nikon Professional friends have sadly found out when trying to keep their older ,beloved Nikon pro DSLRs repaired and working.

Cheers and best to you all.

Everything is no longer supported at some point.....

Of no concern for me. None of my cameras ever required support.
If it quits, being older that ten years, I'll simply replace it.

Canon Rumors and Digital Camera World ( a major Pro-Canon news outlet) just posted this as news. Maybe some Canon owners might like to know this. I didnt know this , and now I will tell one of my mentored photographers that just got accepted into the prestigious ICP Photojournalism and Documentary one year program in NYC, that his used Canon 5D MkII that he just bought is no longer supported by Canon for any repairs.

I already told him it is a great DSLR as I loved my own 5D MkII and made great shots with it. I loved all the countless Canon camera SLRs and DSLRs I have owned and used around the world over the past 40+ years as a pro. Hopefully he will never need any repairs, but at least now he will be informed. He will be doing loads of tough street documentary and photojournalism work and that camera will need to hold up.

Being informed is always better than not knowing if your gear can still be repaired if something unexpected happens.

Cheers and best to you. This prompted me to check Sony. See my post just above.

CPS members and entry-level owners are probably two groups encountering this issue most frequently. The Rebels are rather short in their support, not much longer than as long as the model is actively being sold. Canon's regular annual service membership benefit also is a way for the CPS member to learn their equipment is no longer supported when trying to schedule service.

"News" is a gross exaggeration and characterization for this post ... A 40+ year pro wouldn't be shocked by Canon's business as usual. Plan on returning your pro-card by Friday. It will be inspected for likely counterfeit or forgery.

Nether do I, I opened it in my google browser and it immediately prompted me to click on English and it translated it instantly. I have no idea what browser you use, but I mentioned the Google translation option.

Cheers and best to you

This isn't about me, I no longer own any Canon cameras, just one Canon lens left in my kit, the Canon TS 17mm f4 Tilt-Shift lens which I use on my Sony bodies with the MC-11 adaptor.

This thread is for UHH Canon users. Note the title of my thread: " When will Canon stop supporting your camera? Here spotted by Canon Rumors. Any thoughts from you Canon users "

If you dont own and use Canon gear, this thread isn't for you at all, and just move on.

I actually applaud Canon for putting these lists all in writing, and I applaud Canon Rumors for calling attention to it. Canon is no dummy here, this will help encourage Canon users to buy newer gear before these repair and support "expiration" dates.

Cheers and best to you all.

They stop support when they run out of parts made during the production run. But some independent repair shops may have the part needed on a junker they are stripping for parts.

Just like a part for an old car may be available if say the same engine was used for many model years, otherwise it is call salvage yards until you find someone with that car/engine and part you need.
