Happy to see such interest in 3D! I have been a devotee for decades: 3 cameras (2 Realists and a Revere, a projector, viewers, etc). Currrently using a Fuji point and shoot and "project'' on a 60" Sony. One of my best memories was a show for my son's elementry school class of Loire valley castles....

I really wish that were true---that is an interest in 3d. The old cards and the later transparencies made the images really come to life. I also had viewers for True View and one that had the double images on a strip of 35mm film. And there were stories for children on I think True View or the circular disk viewers like Hopilong Cassidy. But I never got into taking stereo like you did. But on the cards the Paris Ferris Wheel at the Turn of the Century---really stood out!--------------------

My Oculus allows me to travel anywhere in the world in 3D that there is a Googe map. Really fun to do

I haven't always read every post on UHH, but most of them -- have you ever written anything kind/not derogatory here? Who really needs the attitude adjustment??? How can you derive your looked-for satisfaction when everything you say is put down so easily?

Loren - in Beautiful Baguio City

By attitude adjustment (for VR) I think it was a play on words implying a reference to pitch, roll, and yaw. Or maybe I read too much into the reply. Regardless, VR is like a stereoscope in motion. I am not sure it has much to do with this forum, since VR is usually neither still nor photography. For the old style stereoscopic images, as long as it's still life you can just snap 2 frames and move a couple inches left or right between exposures. I do it hand-held with a pocket camera as you don't need much resolution when viewing. Another bit of fun is shooting clouds in burst mode from an airplane window and picking two frames that work well together.

I own that little Fujifilm camera. Its a great little camera and amazing to view the 3D image on the back screen once you've taken it. I have misplaced the charging cable though. I'm hoping I can find it, I'd like to use it again.

3D has already come back ... yet again.

Its now called VR and with just a bit of attitude adjustment you might love it.

You have lost me. How does VR relate to 3D?

Here are two anaglyph images constructed from the samples in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujifilm_FinePix_Real_3D

Although anaglyph is not optimal it's easy to display on your screen. This is helped by the fact that neither image contains any strong red or cyan hues.

Camera improvements have been nearly stagnant for a decade and DSLR are being fazed out in favor of other formats. Have you checked stock prices instead of industry megaphone?--------------------ew

Nearly stagnant for a decade? The past 4 years have seen some of the most rapid advancement in photographic technologies. But yes, those technologies have left the DSLR behind.

I suppose it depends upon what You consider "revolutionary". Do you think the Z9 will drop to 1/5th of its retail price a year after it was launched like the "revolutionary" foveon miracle you worship did?

To my most irritating "nemesis"---Superfly-Fiji-Grahame-------who cannot let go his assault on the Sigma FoveonX3 revolutionary sensor, appreciated in both Germany and Japan, but was panned by the critic at DPhoto Mag,---After a dozen years and being many years discontinued, it still sells for 1/3 original price on the Sigma SD1-Merrill 46mpixel--or now selling at $1000. and over on eBay. You cannot say that for older models of Nikon and Canon---can you---Superfly?--------------------(The Sigma Foveon is not a topic of this thread except to SUPERFLY---trying as always to make trouble!-----------------------------)PS--this Superfly continues this with pasting altered photos of mine while he has never owned a Sigma Foveon. And the administrator ignores altering a photographers photo to degrade and make a false claim. But I will expose Superfly every time he tries this on me.-----(And I will refrain from my true view of such a person as then the administrator comes to life and deletes those comments?)---------------

That purple hair is all in you. Nobody altered it. You can see it in YOUR post of the photo. The only reason the Merrill sells for more uses than Nikons and Canons of that vintage is because they’re a lot less plentiful.

Now in answer to the OP’s question, “will we ever get back to 3D photography?”, I’d say there’s nothing to get back to. 3D was always more of a niche product in photography. It still exists and remains a niche product.

Yes. The digital Fuji W3 is an amazing camera. The LCD viewer on the back lets you review the stereo images you just shot in actual 3D, Without glasses! Amazing! Really, without any glasses on. No BS.

I see 2 directions in 3D from the responses above:
1. Vintage 3 D using original 3 D equipment wherever possible.

2. Digital State of the Art Digital 3 D end-to-end.

I seem to remember a cardboard 3 D viewer several years ago for the 3 D cameras of the day.

My thoughts would be to create a cost effective 3 D system that would leverage existing Color Printers and possibly AI augmented cameras that could be used to create a shareable 3 D experience in which the Potograper could create 3 D prints and share/package them with an affordable cardboard/ plastic Stereo viewer. Professionally this could be a novelty offering for Wedding/ event projects.
Family photography this would be a holiday/ event gift with an ongoing update to the photographs over the years.
The modest image size could easily be done 2 up [Stereo] on 8×10 or so. Multiple copies could be sent out for affordable prints.

This would provide a technology agnostic photo novelty that could help increase interest in print photography. Comments?#
