mpb.com is a very popular reseller like KEH. It sounds like you need to do a significant mount of research to determine a reasonable value for your gear.

I’ve traded in a few items to MPB and I’ve always gotten the original quote. Perhaps you’re overstating the condition of your equipment. I wouldn't touch a lens with fungus.
I have had the same experience as you. More convenient to sell to MPB (or KEH, etc), but it comes at a cost. Selling on this site, or eBay, will almost always bring more cash. And being realistic about condition also counts. I once saw someone list equipment the UHH site in “excellent” condition that was visibly worn and very dusty and dirty, for top prices. I am not suggesting the OP would do this, just that some do subscribe to the theory that “the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. A good example of how to post for sale would come from Thomas who has has numerous items for sale here.
Remember you can always try to sell right here in the classified section

You might also try KEH and B&H's used department

On here is much preferable than eBay. You’ll get a much larger audience on eBay but they’ll ding you with fees every time you turn around. If you set a reserve price you pay more. If you don’t offer the cheapest shipping it’ll cost more, but that shipping won’t include tracking and a signature. And they hold your money for a month after the sale.
You are 100% correct re the fees - they can be surprisingly high, when there is both a listing fee AND a final value fee.
You can use their shipping, or your own. When I sell something on eBay, I compare their shipping cost and the discount shipping company I use (Shippo.com) and I use whichever is cheaper. Both have tracking, and both offer a signature if you choose that option.
eBay now pays out within a couple of days.

I agree, I sold several bodies and lenses on here with like I said, painless and rather quickly.
A good practice in selling your gear here or anywhere on-line, take lots of closeups showing any defects, or lack of.

Yep. I want to see actual photos with details, front and back at least. If someone is using stock photos I’m not gonna trust them.

I don't see what a stock photo is for. When someone is interested in a D850 or D3s they know exactly what they are. So a stock photo offers no more information than a simple text "Nikon D850".

I'm headed to my local camera store tomorrow afternoon to see what price I can get on my D850 with grip and D5 battery with about 3,000 clicks. Also my D3S with about 27,000 clicks. I called and they say they are in the market for DSLR camera gear because most people are not ready to go into mirrorless price range at this time. I will also see what trade-in I can get for about 10 lens. This may be easier than all the selling.
Generally, you will not get good value selling to a retailer because they have to pay for their store, their inventory, lighting and heat, and salespeople. By selling on UHH you will also not get full value because no one will buy something they can get from KEH, MBP, Nikon, or other brands referbed if the price is the same because you do not offer a 90-day or 6-month warranty. You will however be able to expect significantly more than selling to a shop. The way I price items I sell here on UHH is to check what the items are selling for at KEH and MBP and ask for 75% of that price since I don't have the overhead they have. I use PayPal because it offers protection for both the buyer and seller. You can pay for shipping or ask the buyer to pay. If you don't want the hassle of selling, KEH or MBP would be preferable to a local shop since they have a big market to sell in and will most likely offer you more than a local shop. Only you can determine that by doing your own research. Also, selling here on the hog, as long as you have quality items, engenders good relations here since if priced right, people will appreciate getting the equipment for less than going through a retailer.

keywest305!
Depending on condition and what's included and shipping, I will pay up to $550 for the D3s. I see the low mileage so the condition should be fine.
I've done about a dozen transactions, both buying and a trade with another Hogger involving a Mamiya RB67 ProD camera + lens for another Nikon D3s.
Be well! Good luck tomorrow! Ed

Bingo. Their percentage includes the amount you charge for shipping also so you lose there too.
I have sold items a couple of times on MPB. Both times I undervalued the lenses I sold and they sent me more money.
Maybe I should see if any interest for my D850 on here. You all got me thinking
