One thing about having a specific section such as Travel, is that the majority of the folks looking in on that section will be thosed interested in travel matters. For those who have questions about equipment or places to go or anything travel related, having a dedicated section should increase their odds of getting an answer to those questions or at least some better suggestion.

I think that would be a great idea.
I know that often times when I travel to some lesser known places, I try to get info about the locality, peculiarities, events, or other ideas about the regions I plan to visit/pass through. What better way than being able to get that info from folks who live nearby.
Hope this gets off the ground!
I would also subscribe and sometimes post as this seems a great idea. I'm sure I have much more to learn, and I may also be able to help others with some of the things I've learned that worked for me.
So, are you going talk about a section, or do something about it?
The implementation process is short and simple:
1, Write a simple section introduction / purpose. This is the 'sticky' at the top of the section. Here's a reasonable model to rewrite for a travel section:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-745156-1.html2, Write a 1- or 2-sentence summary to be used on the list of All Sections on the UHH main page. You can scroll the main page and pick any section as a model to rewrite to a Travel section.
3, Send a PM to ADMIN with these details requesting the new section.
4, Wait and implement / activate when ADMIN gets back confirming the section is live.
5, Write an invite in the Main Discussion section.
Seems this could be used by asking participants to insert keywords into Question - e.g. Travel. birds, birds in flight, Everglades. The search button on UHH seems to work ok (it found Birds in flight" without a problem.
Of course, it needs posters to ensure they include relevant text in the title of their post e.g. "I have a problem" is of no use, but changing to something like "Problem -my XXX body broke, needs repair, Any suggestions on where I can get it fixed?" Probably some better examples but should provide enough info for interested person click and post advice, or any owner of XXXX camera could search using "XXXX, broken body, repair" should get hits from many parts of UHH.

Local Admins can 'fix' things in the sections under their control. The best approach is limited and conservative, but sometimes a more liberal approach to 'fixing' can be helpful. Alas, that level of effort can be unrealistic to accomplish / maintain.

Well now, I thought I might ask the question, see some responses, see if there was someone who wanted to co-admin with me, and in the meantime recover from jet lag after a long trip, handle some personal business, deal with my best friend’s death, participate in my service club, handle a consulting job / testimony, and a few other things. I posed the question two days ago. I’ll get to it.
I know the process, I admin another section. It’s not rocket science. I enjoy UHH (at times..rudeness can be off putting making me periodically reconsider participation) but it is not my top priority in life, so there may be delays. It’s a volunteer job and I’m worth everything they might pay me.
If I decide to do it, I will let you know in my timeframe.

Is there any interest in a travel section on UHH? I approached admin some time ago about it but life got in the way. I'd consider rekindling the interest if there was someone who wanted to co-admin the thing.
I envision a section that has tips, where to photography, what to take, etc...
Thoughts?
I think that would be a great idea. We are always trying to figure out where to go next on our vacations so this would be very useful.

Use the "Field of Dreams" principle - If you build it, they will come.
I think you proposed a section many UHHs are interested. Just go start the section.
I will sign up. Sincerely, Andrew

I'd like that very much if it's plausible.

I would subscribe to it also.

Yesterday, I submitted a request to Admin with a description of the section, and the one or two sentence section subtitle. Waiting for a response.

Thanks, I think this section would be of interest to a lot of UHH members.
