Can you relate to selling your first camera gear

I generally don't sell what works. I sold a lot of stuff broken. I rarely ever sold anything I bought new. Most of the stuff I sold I bought used and sold for higher price than I paid for them. If someone gave me something and I don't want it I return it back to them.

I have a Nikon D3s I have been holding on too for awhile with very low use. If I ever ran into someone who wanted it I would sell. I always think maybe someday I would use it but never happens. I keep it clean and batteries charged.

Thanks everyone for your personal feedback. I inherited it from my dad after he passed away. He was a shutterbug and preferred his point and shoot pocket cameras. It was sentimental but I eventually was feeling it wasn’t producing the quality I wanted. The new gear was just what I wanted and I haven’t gone back to the T2i.
Keeping stuff, even if it works but not used anymore, is tempting but becomes a burden. Someone shared that it’s not something to leave to your heirs, ha ha!
So, I’m taking it to Samy’s.

When I got my T2i I knew someone who wanted to upgrade from a poor camera so I sold her my XT with 18-135 lens. Then I got an 80D but kept the T2i as "backup". Now I just got an R7. I don't need the 80D but I love it and will keep it, but the T2i can be sold with its box, the Sigma 18-250 I have on it and spare batteries, but I haven't explored it yet.

When I went back to Pentax, junking the camera body was obvious, because it’s not working was the reason for my going. I sold off most of my lenses in the next few months. Your lenses may have value to someone like me who sees a use on a MILC, but most likely the longer you hang into the body, the less it will be worth.

Got my 1st camera in the early/mid 1940's by selling seed packets. Took #127 film, mouse trap shutter fixed aperture, cost $!. I have no idea where it went . Do have a lot of leftover stuff however just need a push to unload it.

Canon T2i, 2 kit lenses, 3 additional lenses, accessories, nothing pro. KEH estimated $265. Too bulky and old to lug around any more now that I’ve got new gear.

Can anyone relate to letting go of old gear? It’s harder since I inherited it from my father, but I don’t think he’d want to see me weighed down by it even though I got my start with it.

My first DSLR was a Canon XT, and when i got the T1i, I sold the XT with it’s kit lens to a friend. When I got the 60D, I sold the T1i to another friend. I have also sold cameras and lenses on Craig’s List and here on the hog, never to any commercial company.

My first really good camera was a Yashica Lynx 14e (range finder 35mm) still works except for the light meter. Sets on a shelf in my office as a reminder of how far we have come.

True, it’s a marvel how much things have changed, and that the pace is accelerating.

I gave my old Nikon D5000 to a friend's 15 yo daughter who has been showing an interest in photography. It felt better than selling it.

I sold an Oly E-1, 50-200mm, 12-60mm, 1.4 TC. I got quotes from B&H and KEH. Sold to KEH because of a difference of $400.

Some of us can "let go" the unused easily, some of us can't, and many are somewhere in between.....I'm not sure there is any harm to any based on where they stand.

Much of the stuff mentioned is not that old! I still have my Yashica Penta J SLR camera, a high school graduation present from 1963. In perfect condition and only cost $79.95! It's alongside my Nikon SP rangefinder, Nikon Photomic FTn SLR, Pentax Spotmatic SLR, Hasselblad 500C, Topcon Super D SLR and Canon 7 rangefinder!

All classics in terms of esthetics and useability. Don't ask about my DSLR collection!

Be well! Ed
