They know absolutely nothing about Canon yet spew information that is easily proven to be wrong just because they are jealous.

Believe your own reality. I cant speak for others, but I have as much experience with Canon as anyone here, and I only report news facts. The world is responding to this action by Canon and the reaction is overwhelming negative worldwide as Canon applies its cripple hammer again.

This UHH forum is not the center of the photo world folks.

Cheers and best to you.

LOL, I have been a Canon fanboy and user for over 42 years as a professional. But that doesn't mean I am blind to when any maker makes stupid decisions or poor products.

Too many UHHers let their brand loyalty cloud their objectivity and blind them to the current reality. I wont do that ever. Get used to it folks.

Reality is a hard pill to swallow for many here in UHH, I get that. And I dont use any brand or product name in my ID name here either, LOL. As a photographer and a photo educator I am NOT defined by the brand I choose to use at any given time.

Thank goodness we aren't all sheep and follow blind allegiance to a brand. These cameras are just tools, and in my long career I have used the best tools available at the time, nothing more, nothing less. My only loyalty is to what works the best at the time for my professional and personal work.

I have owned and used Pentax, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, Mamiya, Hasselblad, Plaubel, Bronica, Leica, Nikon, Canon, and Sony plus view cameras from 4X5 inch Linhof to 11X14 inch Deardorff over the decades. None of them has ever paid me to endorse them, nor would I solicit or accept any such arrangement. lol

You need to just get over it folks if I talk about or comment on any brand that you dont favor to hear about. That really is your hang up, not mine. I am not going anywhere or changing who I am here in UHH. lol

Cheers and best to you all.

I've been shooting Canon since I was in highschool, and that was a long time ago. Not only do I understand why Canon is doing this, I totally agree with Canon. Manufacturing adapters is one thing, but infringing on a companies new technology patents and making and selling inferior products based on the copied technology, is not only bad for Canon's clients, it's bad for Canon. The people who can't buy inferior knockoffs who are "mad" at Canon, are thinking with their wallets and not their brains. Why do people think it's a good idea to mount a lens of questionable inferior quality on an expensive camera body, why!?

If you are really into manual focus should check out the Zeiss lenses. I am not sure but I think they make some manual focus only lens with large well damped focusing ring,
I guess they don't make them for the RF mount yet.

I have a set of three such primes in EF mount that I use on an AF adapter.

They have the full suite of EF electric couplings except for AF. Instead of AF they have world class old school MF, a real pleasure to use.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I got them they were called the Voigtlander SL-II series. They still offer something similar under the Zeiss label. They also make great MF lenses for the M-mount, but acoarst no electronics.
In trying to catch up with recent Hedgehog commentary traffic, I want to respectfully disagree with Azat.Vi's note on Canon.
Since my early days with the AE1, over the years I've had the need to deal directly with Canon a few times for either consultation, repair work, or camera exchanges (except for occasional use of a Fujifilm X-Pro1, I shoot mostly with Canon cameras and lenses).
In my opinion, their customer service has always been attentive and professional.
In this world of apparent indifference towards customer support with some major companies, I've always found Canon to quickly respond and provide follow-up to my queries and issues.
So yes, although sometimes there will be inevitable exceptions, from my experience they certainly merit "kudos" in their customer service effort.
Regards.
I too am a Nikon user but have bought a couple of third party lenses since Nikon did not have anything comparable. And now they don't work on my Z9. I knew that was a risk going in but still would have made the decision to buy them and, if I need to, can use them on my Nikon DSLR which I still have (and use as a backup camera anyway). Considering how few Nikon (and Canon) lenses have been made for their mirrorless cameras, it works out if third party lenses are available for these other products.
Did the lenses depend on the body’s motor to focus?
Yes, remember that the Z mount made obsolete a lot of lenses and screwed a lot of Nikon users.
Yes, Nikon severely down graded quality for price.
But I will not bash Nikon for doing that as Canon might do the same in the future, who knows?
When AF became a thing, both Nikon and Pentax used ‘screw-drive’ to maintain compatibility at first - then moved from mechanical control to electronic control {and incompatibility} over time, while Canon moved straight to electronic control {and incompatibility}. I moved to Canon at that time because I loved their silent EF/usm lenses, which I personally viewed as being of higher quality. Later, I moved back to Pentax, purchasing a complete system in each case.
I guess it does depend on personal preference.
Minolta was first and although they changed the mount but use screw driver for the AF. Nikon and Pentax figured they could use their existing mount and adapt to AF.
And with all laughing at Canon for going 21st century 30 years ahead of others it paid off with future 100% compatibility when going RF mount and at the same time capturing all the M39, R, FL and FD lenses in their original manual modes back to the 1930s and earlier.
Pure genius and gave them the ability to replace Nikon as the pro choice with Nikon struggling to stay 3rd because of the stubbornness of admitting they made a mistake by sticking with the long obsolete F mount and mechanical couplings including AF.
Of course everyone knows Canon is doing this for the money, nothing else.
Sometimes big, profit making companies lose sight of how best to grow their base, and this is a classic example.
As I have said before, I am an administrator and moderator of several worldwide photography groups in Facebook. These groups include users of all brands and many Canon owners or Canon prospective owners have said they are moving away from Canon for its very shortsighted actions here. The reality is Canon ultimately will lose amateur and even pros over this dumb move.
Canon's competitors will reap the benefits. It is already happening.
Just today 9/21/22 ,professional wedding photographer and longtime Canon user Taylor Jackson posted a new youtube video where he talks about why he sold his Canon R3 and got another brand camera.
His main reason is he can now use the new superb quality third-party Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens for shooting all day at his weddings, and he could not use such a third-party lens with his Canon R3 camera. And he found other practical advantages with the new brand and model camera he is now using.
I'm Selling My Canon R3 (And What I've Replaced It With) (Taylor Jackson)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2E365vixWI
Only folks not looking at reality will think Canon's move wont hurt them in the long run. And FYI again I was a Canon pro user for over four decades and have no dislike for Canon.
Cheers and best to you all.
