Very good action shots. I notice that the bull riders wear helmets, but the horse riders do not???

Loren - in Beautiful Baguio City

The bull riders are in danger of hitting the bull's horns while being thrown about.

Nice shots. Perfectly timed...for the longest 8 seconds in sports.

With me knowing precious little about rodeo .... does anyone know which is the easier task: (1) Bucking Bronco, or (2) Bull riding? I would guess that getting thrown off, or dismounting after 8 seconds, would be much more dangerous from a Bull who would then pursue the rider.

Thank you. I cannot answer your question with any real authority, but the bull riders are the only ones wearing helmets. From what I saw last Sunday and what I have seen in the past, both endeavors are extremely hazardous to your health. BTW - I like the phrase "the longest 8 seconds in sports".

I grew up on a cattle ranch and was big into rodeo which for me included calf roping, team roping and barrel racing. I broke a number of horses and bumped into cattle regularly but I always figured it took too much for my parents to raise me to get onto one of those bulls.

I attended a rodeo in the small central Washington town of Waterville last Sunday. It was part of the North Central Washington County Fair. While small, the rodeo was still packed with lots of action which I think made for some fun photos. Those cowboys really take a beating in their events. Here's a sampling of the photos. I hope you enjoy them.

This is a real thriller, Saxman!

GREAT SHOTS, WHAT CAMERA & LENSE DID YOU USE. 3 YEARS AGO I ATTENED FRONTIER DAYS IN WYOMING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET SUCH FOTOS AS YOU. I USED A CANON 7DM2 WITH A TAMRON 18-400.

Thank you. The camera was a Nikon D500 and the lens was a Nikon 80x400MM (first version). All were shot in RAW and processed in Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) and Photoshop. All shots were taken from the grandstand. Most large sporting events won't let you bring such a camera and lens combination into the arena. But this event was very small (in comparison to most other rodeos) with no such restrictions.
