Predictably, we're hearing people defend their own purchase decisions. I wouldn't expect differently, but you're not likely to learn much on a thread like this.

Always.....
You'll never hear "I got the worst camera.".
Or "I made a mistake in buying this."
The interesting thing is that 50 people each got a different camera, and all 50 like what they got.
And they'll each tell you to get what they got.
The bad part is - people always think that other people think like they do.
"You should get what I got because I like it and it's the best.".......
"I love my camera, you should get one."...
"Because I like it, you will also."

It is true to say that CAMERAS never take photos, but YOU do. However; YOU must have a camera to do your job.
We used to have over dozens of camera brands in last century (over 30 years ago), but today my choice is 4 or 5?
I would like to know how today's photographers favor which brand is the best. We must consider all those factors; what is capability of the equipment and system, pricing, reliability, service availability, and user friendly design.
I came up with four major names; SONY, FUJI. CANON, and NIKON. There were OLYMPUS, PENTAX, LEICA and PANASONIC a decade ago, what happened with them, are they still with us?

The brand that is best is the one you prefer using.

Yeah the bad thing is people want others to like their camera.

As gwilliams6 had pointed out here, most if not all of the major photojournalism and news agencies in the US and abroad have migrated to using Sony gear, so that says something about the brand.
You might want to do your own independent research into this topic ... Or, do you just believe whatever you read on the internet?
Nothing should make you feel inferior about your equipment except the brand.
YES, to all of your perspectives. Though there are so many photographers who are influenced by ad campaigns? In my opinion, the best camera brand is determined by what your personality and shooting pattern. Nature landscape
shooters do not care about the fastest focusing capabilities. Yet, photojournalist hardly making 30" X40" display printing? Movie cinema photographers needs good sounds bits, etc. The A.C. (after capture) works as photofinishing used to be, it counts a large portion (not sue how many percents) for great shots. The optics, camera body, softwares, are necessity BUT your mind and perceptions determine the best brand for you. One brand SONY is interesting, because when I was growing up, they were Audio, TV electronics people, nothing to do with photography. Oh well, in 21st century the is no more darkroom, silver film rather Light Room and video tapes.
The ultimate measure of a person is not their mistakes nor their accomplishments, but what brand they shoot.

I think I'll just wait for your treatise on the subject.
I was a pro Nikon and Canon SLR and DSLR user for over 40 years (both brands) with some Leica use also, and then moved over to Sony mirrorless in January 2017 and have no regrets. As a Worldwide Award-Winning photojournalist I love my Sony gear for all my professional and personal work around the world. I shoot all subjects.
I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, and currently own Sony A1, A7RIV, A7SIII. I also currently own 13 E-mount lenses from 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma, Tamron.
Sony was the first brand to have and develop fullframe mirrorless cameras. Laughed at as toys in the beginning by its competitors, Sony has risen to be the sales leader in fullframe mirrorless cameras and sales leader of all fullframe cameras (DSLR or mirrorless).
Canon and Nikon, have awaken and now produce their own excellent fullframe mirrorless cameras, as does Panasonic. Fuji ,Panasonic and Olympus have excellent APS-C, micro 4/3rds and medium format mirrorless cameras of their own.
The major news services like Associated Press, Canadian Press, UK Press, and all Gannett Media have switched from their Canon and Nikon DSLRs to Sony mirrorless exclusively for all their staff photographers and staff videographers worldwide in the past 20 months. (AFP) Agence France Press has gone to the Nikon Z9.
If you read these posts, you will see these News Services switched for all the advantages of mirrorless and for the pace of innovation of Sony fullframe mirrorless. AFP photographers had a hand in developing the Nikon Z9. They did NOT switch because of economic reasons, as all brands offered similar economic bids.

My personal preference are Sony and Canon. I don't think you could go wrong with either. For film cameras, I'm partial to Nikon.

Neuroscience says that external stimuli such as a beautiful landscape or a particular brand of camera originate as an emotional stimulus.
It's also been said that Man is not a rational animal, but a rationalizing one.
I happen to like Nikon for "reasons". Those "reasons" became support for my emotion-based like of a Nikon camera.
