From what I know the Nikon D500 is an excellent tool, specially for wildlife and action photography. If you want one I am sure you can get it in the second hand market if things become complicated.
Mirrorless cameras are here to stay but they are not for everybody.

Why not for everyone? I don,t understand, Thanks

That’s a ridiculous analogy. More apt would be trading your old sedan in on something with anti-lock brakes, built in nav system and improved fuel economy.

My experience with folks struggling with photography has been that if they can't drive a D, they can't drive a Z (or an R or whatever) either.

Who???

I know who Will Crockett is but I don't think he said it 15 years ago. I think 15 years ago the term "Mirrorless" wasn't invented yet.

He owns and uses cameras with mirror. I think he has only 1 mirrorless. He has more cameras with mirror.

I’m getting ready to put my D500 up for sale, (probably later today). I’ll be entirely mirrorless once it’s gone.

Not for me. Not everyone is the same. What don't you understand?

Hey I made the move to Sony mirrorless in Jan. 2017 after over four decades using SLRs and DSLRs from Nikon and Canon (both brands) .

Sure I have touted the advantages of mirrorless over DSLRs many times in UHH discussions.

But If your DSLR still works for you, fits your style and comfort level, makes great photos and is long ago paid for, don't let anyone tell you that you need to switch, not me or even mister Canon.

Be happy and use your DSLRs until they fall apart, and/or there are no more parts to fix them.

As a Professor of Photography at a state university, my many photo students happily learn photography using both DSLRS and Mirrorless cameras.

Cheers

That appears to be gray market.

Some simply just don't care for them.

I know, it's beyond you as to why.

OK so they are selling gray market for the same price as USA then I do think Nikon discontinue it. On discontinuation they have so few cameras that they don't care to sell them. They keep the price high so the new mirrorless look like a bargain.

There's two distinct clues in your post, NikonRumors and speculation.

NikonRumors is reporting today that the D500 is being listed as backordered, not available or discontinued at sellers around the world.

There is some speculation that Nikon may be nearing the release of a high end Z cropped camera...emphasis on speculation.

Such a camera would fit the description of the possible Z90 that Thom Hogan talked about in a recent article.

All of this rushing to buy the latest and the very best kinda reminds me of the time you HAD to have tail fins on your car. Didn't enhance your ability to drive...

But it's so gee-whiz-bang cool and everybody has them.
