I truly believe that phone companies can stop robo calls but won't because they are somehow making money from them. I have seen where a person can purchase a program to make numerous robo call per hour, and it is legal. It even allows the caller to spoof numbers. Spoofed numbers are a bane in my opinion. I have received a robo call from my own number on a couple of occasions, complete with my name on the caller ID.
I wonder if a class action law suit against phone companies for allowing robo calls and spoofed numbers for harassment and unnecessary interruptions, not to mention the millions of dollars scammed from people by crooks, would motivate phone companies to stop the insanity.

Your second two paragraphs are right on. They nailed it. But, don't worry, the concerns you mention in the third paragraph will soon go away.
In the last four years I have written to my fed congressman several times complaining about robo calls. Each time he has assured me that he and his pals in congress are diligently working on the problem and we should see some relief very shortly. I just need to bear with them and I will soon reap the rewards of all the (undefined) things they are doing for me etc etc, etc. gagging etc. BTW this is why I laugh when I read that someone has been indicted for lying to Congress.
