Took a photo course one topic was portraits I saw the tattoo convention and went to it cold police circled the convention center everyone was checked for weapons before you got in. At 75 I was the oldest person by 35 years!
Ihad to form a plan as lighting poor was 1/8 to 1/2 exposure wide open. it was crowded. Anyway here are 10 from that visit it was a lot of fun and everyone was extremely friendly.
Excellent photos, Scott!
There are some exceptional artists in the field of tattooing. Many could be doing fine art but I would imagine they can make a better living creating tattoos.

I'm 86 and I would love to go to a convention like this. I have 8 tats, and got into it late in life. I really like tats that are well done and not overly done. Some of these guys'gal should be on Ink Master.
Job well done. There is a reason why they are called "Tattoo Artists" for their artwork is amazing. By the way...the sign that says "No Colors" refers to wearing a motorcycle gang's "Colors" jacket into the event. Some gang members just don't play well when they are around other gangs.
I titled my series ( many more images then ten) shock and awe at the philly tattoo convention. As you can imaging at 75 no tats and ith no idea what to expect on arrival i see maybe 25 cops the sign on the door and being metal detected before entry and 35 years older then the oldest person I saw was a bit unsettling but once I got going speaking to many artist as truely they were amazing I was in awe of their talent , friendliness I might att they had the clearest eyes and whitest teeth of anyone lol. Even th gang bangers were friendly maybe because my age 75 I think the key is showing folks respect enter into brief conversations ( they are working). I mean tattoos are not my cup of tee but you can admire tallent in all its manifestations. oh also to answer an earlier question the inks they use now I am told do not fade and have more vivid colors ( though I admit to increasing the saturation slightly in lightroom maybe to plus 5 not a lot.
As someone said to each his own man I wish our country was like that just let everyone do their thing so long that they do it in peace. I fear for our country and its constitution nuff said. be well be safe take pictures.
Pretty impressive ink-work......not my lifestyle though.....thank you for sharing it.
