Thank you Doug for looking in on my new travelogue and taking the time to pen your kind comment. Yes, shooting from a moving vehicle is not my preferred situation, but sometimes unavoidable. That is one of several reasons why I prefer to travel solo with just my wife in a car, so that I can stop and shoot wherever I feel like, rather than be somewhat hemmed in by a large bus-based tour which hinders this individuality. But even when self-driving a vehicle, there are times when it is just not possible to stop and capture a special moment. Thanks for your visit, I hope you will find the time to look in on the tour again as it progresses.

I too, prefer to do my own 'tour driving'! I found that if I point the camera more forward, or backward, there is much less blurring. I have actually practiced sitting in the driver seat while stopped, to learn the best techniques. Have gotten fairly good at it (don't even have to 'look'. My wife keeps telling me "you can't capture ALL of the photos"; I reply: "But I may/probably will never be here again", so I just keep annoying her, lol. Yea, I hate the tour buses, also, but sometimes that is the ONLY way to get 'there'. She does appreciate the photos... later.

Interior shots are particularly interesting, although I must say that I don't envy your experience at the hotel, Joe! Hmm, hair dryer for heating a room. I have used a hair dryer for many things other than just drying hair, but never for such a purpose.

Out of a moving bus window, yes, definitely, at an angle forward or backward reduces some of the blur - also, cutting off the foreground somewhat in post can help in elimination. As to taking pictures when in the car, I have actually also learned that I can take pictures in the drivers seat, but when stopped of course, by pushing myself up against the rear of the seat to get that critical extra space for clearance - where there is a need, there often is a way ...

Thanks John, but on a positive note, this little "adversity" in the hotel gives me a topic to talk about --- one can often find a silver lining when really looking - and as for the hairdryer heating, two youngish (by my standards as an oldie) Chinese girls from New York were complaining to me about the lack of heat and I told them what we resorted to - they looked totally confounded - and did the same thing the next night!

In this post I present the changing countryside in the final hours of our drive on the first day: we have arrived at the higher altitudes and the mountains flanking our way portray themselves in their snowy finery. Then we make it to our hotel in Jarpo Town and - believe it or not, even though this is the wild western part of China - we are staying at a "Holiday Inn"! My images project a warm, cozy glow but the hotel was actually freezing cold, with the front door to the lobby wide open and the outside temperature at an altitude of about 2700 m/8900 ft hovering around 0C/32F. The rooms were well appointed but also not heated, and getting access to the internet entailed a trip down to the freezing lobby, which definitely kept our access time short. In our room, we resorted to having the hairdryer blowing all evening to provide a bit of heat, definitely a novel approach to room heating.

In the first part of this set we view the snow-clad mountains and landscape, in the second part the lobby of our hotel welcomes us with its deceiving, warm glow of the lights and attractive interior decoration elements.

Holiday Inn Hotel accommodations without heat at 0º Celsius . . . Pfui!
Nevertheless, an adventurous spirit takes such an inconvenience in stride. I am sure you had a fabulous time just the same, Joe. Certain "sacrifices" bring extra rewards and you keep demonstrating that.
Encore - encore - please!
