Decorative or not they must be representive of their beliefs

Agree Susan, these cultural artifacts like prayer wheels of course serve a deeper meaning, same as the variety of colors in their prayer flags have their different meanings, which I will cover in a later posts. While I do not know, I could imagine that the colors and patterns used in some of the decorations at the hotel, like for instance at the base of the ceiling lamps shown in #9 also harbor a deeper meaning.

In this post I present the changing countryside in the final hours of our drive on the first day: we have arrived at the higher altitudes and the mountains flanking our way portray themselves in their snowy finery. Then we make it to our hotel in Jarpo Town and - believe it or not, even though this is the wild western part of China - we are staying at a "Holiday Inn"! My images project a warm, cozy glow but the hotel was actually freezing cold, with the front door to the lobby wide open and the outside temperature at an altitude of about 2700 m/8900 ft hovering around 0C/32F. The rooms were well appointed but also not heated, and getting access to the internet entailed a trip down to the freezing lobby, which definitely kept our access time short. In our room, we resorted to having the hairdryer blowing all evening to provide a bit of heat, definitely a novel approach to room heating.

In the first part of this set we view the snow-clad mountains and landscape, in the second part the lobby of our hotel welcomes us with its deceiving, warm glow of the lights and attractive interior decoration elements.

That’s a wonderful set of images, Joe! Love those thoughtful pano compositions, and particularly their really striking contrast effects, as well as rich in color majestic Temple interiors. Very nice work!

Thank you Eugene, I am very pleased to hear that you love these mountain images, we will be seeing quite a few more of these while we are up here in Jiuzhaigou. That hotel lobby sure looks like a temple with all its artifacts and colorful adornments.

Thank you AHK for looking in on my recently started travelogue and for your kind comment. I believe this is the first time I see a comment from you, so I bid you welcome to me tour series. I see that you joined UHH almost exactly at the same time as I did - glad to see you here in this community. BTW, I had a quick look at one of your most recent posts, with the otter pictures from Brazil, sorry I missed them earlier when you first posted them, these were some great shots! I hope you might find the time and interest to look in again on this tour as it progresses, it would be nice to have you along! Have a great weekend - Joe
