Both interesting, and beautiful! I understand about the shooting from a moving vehicle, sometimes/many times, the only way to get a shot!

Thanks John, we were also taken in by the warm glow of these interior lights and the local designs, colors and artifacts.

Thank you Doug for looking in on my new travelogue and taking the time to pen your kind comment. Yes, shooting from a moving vehicle is not my preferred situation, but sometimes unavoidable. That is one of several reasons why I prefer to travel solo with just my wife in a car, so that I can stop and shoot wherever I feel like, rather than be somewhat hemmed in by a large bus-based tour which hinders this individuality. But even when self-driving a vehicle, there are times when it is just not possible to stop and capture a special moment. Thanks for your visit, I hope you will find the time to look in on the tour again as it progresses.

Thank you Jim, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed these captures and the series thus far - for being in the "wilds" of western China's mountainous region, the decoration was really quite captivating.

In this post I present the changing countryside in the final hours of our drive on the first day: we have arrived at the higher altitudes and the mountains flanking our way portray themselves in their snowy finery. Then we make it to our hotel in Jarpo Town and - believe it or not, even though this is the wild western part of China - we are staying at a "Holiday Inn"! My images project a warm, cozy glow but the hotel was actually freezing cold, with the front door to the lobby wide open and the outside temperature at an altitude of about 2700 m/8900 ft hovering around 0C/32F. The rooms were well appointed but also not heated, and getting access to the internet entailed a trip down to the freezing lobby, which definitely kept our access time short. In our room, we resorted to having the hairdryer blowing all evening to provide a bit of heat, definitely a novel approach to room heating.

In the first part of this set we view the snow-clad mountains and landscape, in the second part the lobby of our hotel welcomes us with its deceiving, warm glow of the lights and attractive interior decoration elements.
