I have been using Topaz Denise AI for quite a while to process my Sony A7riv raw files of mostly BIF and other bird photos. I have a very powerful computer and graphics card and have to say that when I first started using it, while getting great results,.it would still take 30-60 seconds to process individual shots. If you had a group of 100 pics that could take awhile. Topaz is really good about pushing out updates to their products and not too long after I first purchased it an update came out that significantly reduced the processing time to less than 5 secs per image. Very impressive and subsequent updates have made it even faster. I did have one update that reduced fine feather detail and impacted bird eye detail and color which I reported to Topaz support and shortly thereafter another update came out which mostly eliminated those issues, with subsequent updates offering further improvements. The only other issue I have had and is more a workflow issue is that if use Denise AI prior to adding my watermark with Corel After Shot 3 Pro and reducing file size for posting images on photo forums, the photo EXIF data is deleted. However, if I add the watermark and reduce the file size first and then process with Topaz AI, the EXIF is retained. Not sure why that happens and Topaz is aware of issue, but I just change my workflow as a workaround and final images are noise free. Hope that helps.

There is no learning curve. Very simple to use.

Now I like Lightroom but just can’t learn how to use Photoshop.

Great shot Bill

I would be very interested to hear how and where, in your workflow, you use the Topaz plugins

I load my RAW files into RAW photoshop processing, when it is done there I bring it into photoshop where I use the dodge, spot healing, clown stamp, and other tools on the image, then at the end I use Topaz.

I too have the Olympus M43 system and am overall quite happy. However, regardless of the ISO I find myself putting the images through Topaz DeNoise AI routinely. It moves quickly and does a fairly good job not just for noise but for clarity as well.
IMHO it's worth the trial for two weeks and see if you like it. Watch you tube videos first to be assured you can handle the program--it's truly easy.

I have both Topaz Denoise and ON1 No Noise. Both are excellent but ON1 No Noise is better in my opinion… I get modest but noticeably better results, and more ability to tweak the results when needed with ON1. But the difference is between spectacular and even more spectacular, you can’t go wrong with either. Both are far better than anything else I have tried.

Thank you for all of your responses! The Topaz A/I has been a topic of discussion @ our Photography club meetings but the UHH discussion is really helpful.

As I recall Topaz recommends using DeNoise at the very beginning of your work flow. In other words you should open your RAW file with DeNoise than proceed with the remainder of your workflow. Of cousrs, I'm assumimg you use RAW rather than JPEG. If not forget everything I've said.

I don’t see much difference in applying denoise to the RAW file as opposed to the jpg. So I process the RAW then the first thing I do is use DeNoise on the jpg. Suppose it’s just a matter of preference.

I do all edits to the raw, so I don't loose them. I first edit the raw with lightroom and or PS. Then I denoise if needed, them sharpen of needed. I guess I could do the sharpen first the Dennis denoise, to remove any noise created by sharpening. One thing I have noticed is I usually have to adjust the highlights and sometimes the whites to the left slightly after coming back from Topaz.

Kevin - you're the ultimate decision maker on whether this software will work for you. Wouldn't it make sense to download the free trial and use it on some high ISO images?

Just to let everyone know as the OP, I did download both DeNoise and Sharpen and decided to purchase both since there was an end-of-year sale plus a coupon code available. I haven't had much time to play with them yet (busy family holidays around my house!), but I'm excited for what I've already seen. Again, thanks to everyone for chiming in.

Thomas, that you so much for your comments.
I actually started tracking the Green Heron when he was out over the water. I was just after sunrise and the sun was mostly behind me. As he flew, I just depressed the shutter, when he came in low over the ground, I lost him in the back ground and stopped shooting. As I was going over my images for the day, there he was, standing out against a beautiful background. This has happened to me more times than I care to mention. At 20 frames per second, sometimes you don't know what you have until you go over the images when you get home. The bonus was he was also making a lot of noise coming in. I will take luck when it happens.

There is a funny thing about Luck.
It seems to me that the more you Prepare and the Harder you work at Anything, the "Luckier" you get.
Congratulations it seems that you did Both, and that should make you . . .

Right! The following is what Topaz Products has to say.

[quote=kcholman]I moved to the Olympus MFT system a couple of years ago and have enjoyed it overall; however, one drawback I've encountered is noise in low-light situations using higher ISO (of course). I've seen quite a few people online mention the wonders of Topaz DeNoise AI, and I'm wanting feedback from the UHH members who've actually tried it or use it. I did search the forum and saw discussion from as recent as a year ago--some liked the old DeNoise 6 better than the AI at that time (though I understand the v6 is discontinued); but has AI improved over the past year? I should mention that I do have Affinity Photo which comes with a noise filter, but I haven't been able to produce significant improvements with it (maybe due to inexperience/incompetence, haha). So does anyone here think DeNoise AI is truly amazing, or not so much?

I do realize that Topaz offers a 2-week trial, btw, but I've read where people say AI is more complicated to use than the v6, and I'm not sure at my recreational level that I'd be able to master the learning curve in time to make a good judgment in that time frame; thus I'm soliciting opinions.

Thanks!

The topaz denoise does not have much of a learning curve. The options are to reduce noise, and to increase sharpness with sliders indicating how much of an effect you want it to provide. One of the preview options is a vertical slider which divides the original image into two sections: left and right. The left one is the original image and the right is the corrected one. The user can move the vertical slider back and forth and judge the quality of the correction. When satisfied, you apply the whole fix and then save as with a slightly different name to preserve the original.
