I've accumulated over 73,000 emails in my Spectrum account. I haven't been able to sign on for a while, and I tend not to go there anyway because it's so slow. I used to be a able delete RoadRunner email a page at a time. Now, it seems that I have to click on each email individually to delete it. It takes about ten seconds to complete a deletion.

Does anyone know of a quick way to delete email in Spectrum? Looking on their site, it says to click on the email and then click on Delete. With over 73,000 email, at ten seconds each, that would take quite a while.

EDIT: This is interesting. When I looked just now, there was a box labeled "From" at the top of the list. It wasn't there before, but clicking on it lets me delete a page of emails all at once.

I'm not a Spectrum customer, but does CTRL-A select all on a page?

How about just clicking on the first, then holding down the shift key and scrolling to the last (which highlights all) and then choosing delete?

Click on one of them then “control A” to highlight them all, then delegate.

Does it bother you to know you have those emails?
They aren't sitting on your hard drive taking up space...it's on their servers.

You could just ignore it.

Some email software such as Outlook give you the option of deleting emails once they are downloaded. I hate paying for Outlook, but it lets me sort email into folders BEFORE I bother looking at it. So I have folders for politics, shopping, travel promotions, people wanting a donation, etc. I only review those folders once a month or so...

Aside from the question being directed to Toby, does your Gmail account go get your emails from Spectrum? Or are Spectrum emails forwarded to your Gmail account.
A forwarder can be set to retain emails or not.
Can Gmail be set to not delete from the Spectrum server after it downloads them?

If the forwarder or retrieval client are set to save on the server, that's probably how you wound up with a 73K emails. The clients I use are set to delete from the primary mail server once downloaded (not save).

Complicated question. It looks like both services are set to send all email to Gmail. I use two email addresses, Gmail and Spectrum. I see everything in the Gmail account. It is taking several minutes to delete a page of email from Spectrum. Crazy.

Yep, I use a spectrum email account also, but I download everything automatically to Outlook, so I never even look at the Spectrum account - must have 50-100,000 emails since I’ve had it for at least 20 years. I guess when it finally gets full, I’ll have the same issue. Now I understand the problem.

There is a check box next to the word From, but that often disappears. If I click on that, it selects 100 emails, and then I click on Delete. Every action takes a long time. Below is what I have now - no check box next to "From." Actually, there are no check boxes at all for me to select emails to delete.

EDIT: Now the check boxes are back.

If you want to just delete blocks of sequential emails, click on the first email to be deleted, then scroll down to the last one to be deleted, press and hold the SHIFT key, and click on that last one. When they are all selected, which may take some time if you’re selecting a lot of emails, hit the DELETE key. Or, at that point you’re email system may show a DELETE button in the header area or ask for a confirmation about deleting those emails before it does so.

If only that worked. That selects only the first and the last emails. I have to wait for the check box to appear next to From. I click on that and click on Delete. Then I wait - and wait. Sometimes, it doesn't do anything, and I have to start over. Going from one page of email to the next can take several minutes.

I've got Spectrum and this is what I do and can delete hundreds at a time in seconds.

Funny, but mine doesn't work that way. All I get from that is the first and the last one checked. At some point, I will get a check box next to From. When I click on that, 100 emails are checked to be deleted. It takes several minutes to delete them. I never time it because I don't want to sit here staring a thing spinning around.

It's been eight minutes, and it's still spinning, trying to delete 100 emails.

It's been so long since I setup Gmail, that I'm not sure. I do know that when I was using Spectrum, which was RoadRunner at the time, I had it set to keep emails. I believe that when I setup Gmail, I had it get email from RoadRunner. I'll take a look.

The 100 emails I tried to delete at 11:51 are still processing.

EDIT: It looks like Spectrum is set to send it's mail to Gmail, but not vice versa.
