You are a funny guy, at this moment, I don't have access to the "online chit chat" where I read this... I think it was in one of the FB forums I belong...

So I am "guessing" you are stating NO delay to focus an R5 with an Adaptor to a 500 f4 L lens?
sounds incredulous to me ...my problem here would be twofold though since 100 500 lens is too short for my needs and I use a TC1.4x with the 500 to get a minimum of 700mm together. I believe this combo on the 5Dmkiii
body does SLOW the autofocus speed "some", particularly with BIF images... thanks

My hands-on experience with 1.4x and 2x v III extenders with a number of EF lenses is the use of the technique of AI Servo. The AF motor from off / on is 'sluggish' where the compensation technique is to constantly engage the AF motor via AI Servo. After that change, claiming there's "problems" is just repeating made up BS found on FB or his cousin UHH ...

The photographer might also assure a fresh battery and / or a battery pack if not shooting with the dual batteries of the 1-series bodies, but AI Servo is needed no matter the body and onboard power options.

Here's an image the violates all the online expert's knowledge. a) IS active at slow 1/320 sec b) IS active on a tripod c) 2x extender for a sharply focused image. Which part of the image demonstrates an oft-repeated (parroted) 25% loss of sharpness?

One other point I failed to share... as I prefer primes... the R 600f4 prime is out of my price range, and most of humanity as well ... so it is MY contention a Prime is always sharper [ all things being equal] than a zoom, thus the R zoom will not work for me and the 600 is out of my league, being partly human myself...

so for the Time Being, I must use the OLD technology of 5Dmkiii + TC 1.4, bear its Heavy wt and suffer until a better combo can be obtained... the 5dMkiv is getting cheaper by the minute!

Here is an image that was taken yesterday with my OUTDATED rig..

cheers

There's no evidence of TC impact in this image, although for a static subject, you might consider a slower shutter speed if you find it's pushing your ISO unnecessarily high. You might look too at your colorspace when creating JPEGs for online posting.

I agree about the learning curve. I bought the R5 but kept the 5D IV because I have a collection of EF L quality lenses and it is still a great camera. With the R5 I started with the 24-70 f:2.8. Then I got the 24-240 mm f:4.0-6.3 which is not an L series but is a very sharp and great lens and not that expensive. Now I have the Canon 100-500 on backorder. For everything else I intend to use the EF lenses with the Control Ring EF to RF adapter. It works very well. The R5 is an amazing camera and it is probably the one I will use most but the 5D IV is also an amazing camera.
