Try removing the lens. Switch camera off, reattach lens and switch on. Also do you have latest firmware for camera and lens installed?
I have an R and an R5 and neither can be switched between MF and AF. The switch is in the lens. If you are stuck in one then I would suggest that you turn the camera off, remove the lens, be sure that the lens to camera contacts are clean, switch the lens between MF and AF several times to be sure that the switch is working, then reinsert the lens and turn the camera on. Take note that the Cleaning occurs.
When I saw "MF," I thought maybe you were angry with the camera.

The OP stated that it was a Canon, Jerry, not a Nikon!

Do you have another AF lens to check whether the problem is solely in the body?
Try attaching the lens to a different camera. The lens itself may be the problem.
Seems to me that I have run across this before. A specific setting, when activated, will prevent the auto-focus from working. I can't remember which one. Perhaps if you went into the "Tools" section of your menu and selected "Reset Camera" the problem would clear.

Yes I know that there is a menu setting for shutting IS off. Useful when moving the camera on a bumpy road. Perhaps there is a menu setting to shut AF off. I support the recommendation to reset to factory.

Thanks but that's not it ... that button activates the focusing like pushing the shutter halfway ....
I expect you’ve already tried a battery out reset and a restore factory settings menu item (which I assume is there someplace).

Canon 24-105
A screen shot ? I don't know at this point how to do that...
I've got the camera AF operation menu showing me only MF ... no other option...
Is there a switch on the lens and is it set to MF?
If this isn't it, then try another lens. If both are set to AF and it still doesn't autofocus, then call Canon....
Happened to me because somehow the switch on my lens was turned to manual focus. Switched it back to Af and voila. Have no idea if that is your issue but can't hurt to check.
My suggestion would be to put the 24-105 lens back on and switch the lens to AF. If you had the lens on MF and took it off, you confused the camera.
