to be honest, none of us settle for one camera after we have enough to buy the second one.

I went from a D200 to a D300 and a D3 - used them both for different things, but was settling more on the D3. Went to the D800, sold both the 3 and 300. Within a month of buying/selling my D800 was in the shop because of software failure (Lock up for ckleaning wouldn't work). At that point I wished I had kept the 300. Will go back in the shop again because the threads that mount the remote cord and other things to the 10 pin plug disappeared along with the remote cord. So, I'll be another 2-3 weeks without being able to engage - Again, wish I had kept the 300, but not enough to buy another something
I'm still trying to master the One camera I have D7000. Carrying around two or more cameras may look Cool, but if you can't shoot one, why carry two?? If you have that kind of money, Find a local Pro that takes Great Photos and pay him for lessons.

I asked a week ago about how many of you have twin (or close to it) DSLRs. New question. How many of you get by just fine with one DSLR?
i think the question was how many only have one dslr.
I keep two with me at all times. My 7D and my 50D. I don't use the 50D much but it is there if I need it. when I'm shooting with the 7D mounted on a tripod with a long lens, I shoot with the 50D/100-400mm, hand held for quick fly-by shots.
We use Canons,400D portraits etc,30D for sports,75-300 & 100-400 Lenses Try and leave lenses on body(30D),dust

All those who cannot afford a second one?
...or don't find it necessary to have a second one.
I only use 2 when I'm shooting sports, one with a 70-200 and one with a 50 or 24-120. Otherwise I just use my D600.
I kept my Canon Xti when I upgraded to my T2i. It comes in handy when there are situations when only a "wide angle" lens will do and it is not convenient or practical to be swapping lenses. Sometimes carrying two dslrs can be a bit cumbersome though. Guess you have to weigh that against missing a shot, while you are taking a "walk around" lens off and putting a "wide angle" on.
Jerry,
I recently purchased the D800 and still have my D90. I've always gotten along just fine with only one DSLR. However, not so sure I can say that now since I'm still trying to learn how to use the D800. Let me say that I get along great with the D800 AND my husband shooting the same scene with the D90. LOL

I'm with 'Scoutman' for the first of my SLRs (I am allowed to include SLRs aren't?) for the first ten years, one body was all I could afford, apart from my old box camera. Couldn't afford another one.
Then along came the Nikon F2 and I couldn't wait until I had one, traded my first for it and regretted it for another couple of years before I managed to buy another of that original Nikon F, which I've still got and yes, to keep it fit I do take it out occassionaly & run a roll of film through it, as with the F2s. Since then I've never been without two SLRs or now, DSLRs but don't always carry them with me together unless I go out on a FX or DX swayed but, specific shoot. My compact always goes with me these days because of the recent technical quality they have and that will always go with me, even if I go out for an FX specific shoot.
As I ddin't see your last, hope this answers your question.
Now your second question. No! Not often anyway.
My turn. Why do you ask?

I had two, until my son asked if he could have my 40D.
Wishing I still had it,so I would not have to keep changing lens.
I have a D90 and a D800. Very happy with both!
With the great zooms and having no need to carry different speed films, one does the job. I use my D700 and have my never used backups, a D1x and F5. I do use a Leica Dlux4 as a second camera with me though.
