While phone cameras have come a long way, they still can't compete with a "real" camera for difficult subjects. Just one example - low light at a distance. If you can't mount a strong flash, you won't get it.

Yes - for common situations phones can do a great job taking snapshots, but those less common difficult situations call for more.

Exactly. I always bring my camera. My cell phone is simply to run a program that nails exposure/processing.

I know the cellphone has a good camera along with everything else but there are things you can do with the sony camera (or any camera) that aren’t possible with a cellphone camera(if you want to or are able to do). The problem sometimes is that you have to have the knowledge to utilize the features(fstop, shutter speed etc.). That is why I like the Sony camera better than the phone camera.I am enclosing 2 photos of the moon. One was taken with my cellphone. The other with my Sony camera. The Sony is far better than the cell.
I just like the versatility of the regular camera compared to the cell. Sometimes either one is a pain but I like the Sony better.

So far no one has mentioned ergonomics. I find it physically much easier to take pictures with my camera than with my phone. Whenever I have both with me, I use the camera. When I don't have the camera at hand, then I use the phone.

My experience is the nut behind the lens is far more important than the camera when it comes to image quality.

I've done some great images with my Galaxy S10+. Go ahead and sneer, but for what I use it for, it's fine.

Hmmm, think this falls under the category of the person behind the camera making the difference in the picture more than the camera itself. One can take way better pics of the moon with a cellphone camera. And yes, one has to know how to use the cellphone camera to change the exposure etc to get a decent shot of the moon. If you are interested, you can google moon photos and cellphone camera (though I think you already know this).

Well. I’m going to use what I can. Whatever is easiest to use. I’m not trying to cause any hate and discontent. All I was trying to do was get an answer to a question. You are right Sometimes the camera doesn’t have a whole lot to do with it. It’s the photographer and how he(or she) has mastered the art. Photography is something that people use whatever way or level that they have accomplished. Used to their liking or their ability.
Thank You everybody for all of your replies.

Johnny i hope nobody is sneering or hating. I am not. Personally I use different cameras for different things. As for you why not keep both and see which you like better? The answer is really dependent on your likes and what kind of pictures you want to take. And you might find that you use them both for different things.

There will always be users who will use the camera and those who will the phone regardless of what they have. If I see a photo opt and I only have my photo I will use it. I do not always bring camera equipment with me when I go shopping but I phone etc.

True to a point, yes I can get a better cellphone photo of the moon than that, but here’s one I took with my RX10MIV that nobody could get with a cellphone.

I agree, a photo of something at a distance (and moving fast) would be much better with the RX10MIV than any phone. Or in very low light.

My family keeps telling me that the Iphone XR camera is better than my Sony Cybershot RX 10 m3 camera. I tell them that the rx 10 3 is a better camera. Am I correct? I would like proof to tell them to stop!
Thank You!

What is your criteria? It sounds like you are comparing a flat blade screwdriver to a torx screwdriver and trying to come with a winner. You have my permission to ignore your family on this. It sounds like they are experts and not very likely to change their minds.
