My family keeps telling me that the Iphone XR camera is better than my Sony Cybershot RX 10 m3 camera. I tell them that the rx 10 3 is a better camera. Am I correct? I would like proof to tell them to stop!
Thank You!

My experience is the nut behind the lens is far more important than the camera when it comes to image quality.

I think the question is for taking what pic? The phones take awesome pics and keep getting better. And for some things, iPhones are great, probably better than the Sony's. I don't have the RX10 but do have the RX100m4 and was surprised to see how good my phone iPro 11 was, and in some situations better (in fact, pretty much stopped using my Sony RX100). And for video, the iPhone 13 sounds awesome. However for a distant shot, my guess is the RX10 m3 would be better than any iPhone. But why bother trying to convince others? If you are happy with your pics and they are happy with theirs, everyone should be happy.

"Better" depends on which feature you are looking at. For example, your Sony camera has optical zoom, the Iphone XR camera does not.

Sony has 600mm optical zoom with Zeiss glass. Sony has a larger 1 inch sensor. No comparison in my opinion. Only advantage of IPhone XR is it has a phone.

The camera (or phone) is only as good as you can use it. Consider these features:

24-600mm full-frame equivalent zoom
14 frames per second burst
20MP image files in JPEG and / or RAW
4K video in stereo

If you only take 1-shot at a time at the wide angle in JPEG, with no editing, a phone really isn't any better than this camera. In fact, the phone is better because it's connected directly to the internet to immediately post and share the image results, while placing a delivery order on GrubHub.

It also depends on the age of the person looking at the photo. Ironically, many younger people find photos taken with a “true dedicated camera” to be unnatural looking, and more highly processed photos taken with a phone to be the way photos are supposed to look because that is 99% of what they see everyday.

Take a picture with both and have it enlarged to say 8x10 or larger, bet the Sony wins and no comparison for sports or moving objects. I love my iPhone and it does take great pictures, always amazed at the job it does for exposure but certain things it can’t do. Just use both. Lol

I'm both a Sony camera user who owned an RX-10 and an iPhone 12 pro owner. There is no way you can get the quality of image from a phone's camera than you can from the glass of an RX-10 of any generation. On the other side of the coin, you can fit that little phone camera in crevices that the RX-10 cannot fit in. So for usability, and connectedness, the iPhone is a very handy "swiss-knife" product. But do not let anyone try to tell you that you get better quality images out of an iPhone over an RX-10 lll. That is simply ignorant!

If you think the phone is the only advantage, you don't know much about smart phones. I could list 100's of other advantages, like, flashlight, calculator, radio, mp3 player, magnifying glass, list manager, light meter, compass, GPS, phone book, text messenger, Email and on and on and on.

Of course the issue is just the camera part, so the differences are obvious if you consider sensor size, optical glass and so on. Less obvious if you just compare snapshots. I can sometimes tell the difference from my cell pics (LGV20)and my Nikon D5300, but not always, and I don't exert any effort with the cell phone. My kids use only their Iphones, and their pictures are so damn good it tics me off. They put zero effort into it as well... What's up with dat?

I have the Sony RX10MIV not the III and an iPhone 11, which has a better camera than the XR. The iPhone camera is pretty amazing for what it’s great at, which is snapshots. Yes I’ve seen some amazing shots from cellphones, but limited to certain kinds of shots, but most of what they do is snapshots, which is why there is no longer a market for P&S cameras. I use the RX10MIV a lot more often because much of what I shoot is wildlife. Quite often I’m shooting it from a kayak where my Nikon D500 with the 200-500 is rather unwieldy. There is no way I could get what I need from a cellphone.

I have the Sony RX10 M4 and a Samsung Galaxy S20FE 5G Phone. They both take wonderful photos. The phone does everything that the camera does with the same battery time and charges the same time as the Sony battery. One thing I did notice was that the Sony does have a feature that the Samsung does not have. Sony has another zoom feather which would give you a zoom of 2400mm lens when your phone only has the standard lens that comes with the phone and it is not a Zeiss lens either.

You can purchase a zoom lens for your cellphone that would give you the same features as the Sony RX10M4 but it is not a Zeiss lens and not a ISO of 2.4 @ 24mm lens and a ISO of 4.0 @ 600mm lens at full extension like Sony has for this camera!

The cellphone does not have a 1" X 1" sensor to read the light and to take night time photos like the Sony RX10M4 does along with giving you 24 photos per second and 20.1MP camera.
