Dave, there are several photographers where I go but all I've seen them do is drive very slowly around the lake not getting out of their vehicles. Without determination and patience I would not have had one fourth of the opportunities I've been blessed with.

Vey nice photos. I think you happened upon a mating encounter. When I'm on "wildlife drives" I stay inside my vehicle 90% of the time. I guarantee you will get more photo opportunities that way. The animals don't recognize that there are people inside those mobile blinds. But, of course, it's smart to take advantage of whatever happens along the drive and I'm ready to jump out of the car when appropriate.

Thank you. At first I thought it may be a prelude to mating but they went rolling down the hill with one entering the water and the other one coming back. Where I lived before there were many garter snakes and I've seen their mating sessions. Many song birds, snakes, frogs, insects, spiders as well as other birds I would never have seen by staying in the car.

Very nice, Jerry. Perhaps a mating ritual and not a fight? I hate snakes.

Thanks Ken. I read that they mate in the Spring from April to May. September seems a bit late to be mating.

Thanks Chuck. I don't know if they would be mating this late in the year.

The image quality leaves a lot to be desired but it was difficult to attain focus with these cottonmouths continually moving. I had never seen this before and definitely wanted to document it. I'm glad they weren't fighting over which one would bite me.😬😬

Wow

I'm not sure that was a fight; more like a mating ritual.
