You might want to contact Amazon again they have recently introduced a program guaranteeing second party sellers products.

Sorry you are having these issues I own this lens and it’s performance is stellar. It’s is equal to any Nikkor or Canon wide angle zoom. I do know that if you are shooting a canon in live view below a certain f stop it will give an error message and to continue you have to remove the battery and reinsert. I have experienced this problem. This is documented on Tokinas website here

If you are using a canon Disable "Lens aberration correction in your camera settings.

You have stated that the Tokina wide zoom is "equal to any Nikkor or Canon wide angle zoom". What personal experience or test data do you have to verify this, and in what way is the Tokina equal. . thank you

I was probably a bit overzealous in my statement and i apologize for that. I am retired on a restricted budget. As such when I buy high quality lenses I usually prefer to buy used Canon L series that are in good shape. After having the Canon 17-40 f4 L and then the 16-35mm f/2.8 L I did some internet research to see what else i could get in my price range brand new. Remember the Tokina is 60% less in cost than most of the offerings from Nikon and Canon. I can read what I would like to on the internet and to me about half of what I read is true. I do like Ken Rockwells reviews as he seems to provide a more in depth look at products. I know a lot of people dont like him. To each his own. Here is his review.

https://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/16-28mm.htm

My personal experience is after owning this lens for about 3 years, i can say that i agree with his comments. Especially with regards to build quality, sharpness and distortion. This lens is better than the copies of the 2 Canon wide angles i used to have with regards to sharpness and distortion. I don't have any personal data as i prefer to use my time taking photographs and post processing them. To me if the photographs look good to me then its good. Not very scientific for sure. Rockwell does say that he thinks the Nikkor 16-35mm VR is a better lens overall.

I recently purchased a re-furbished HP computer with Amazon and it is (was not described as) an old desktop which runs well but does not have wireless. I had it for several weeks before hooking it up and do not want to hassle going through a return. It will be an auxilliary desktop suitable for much with a cable connection but not what I expected. Beware of Amazon is my new motto.

Years ago I bought a Metz flash unit from Adorama. When it needed repair I sent to Bogan, the only Metz distributor in the USA. They returned it unrepaired saying that it was a grey market unit and they would not support it in any way. No one else could get parts for it. Adorama would only offer me $100.00 trade in on a new one, (about $500,00), even though they hadn't disclosed it was grey market when I bought it. Since then I only buy from B&H. At the time they also sold grey market at lessor prices but they told you that in advance.

Unless it mentioned that it had wireless, there's no "beware of Amazon" on this case.
You can add a WiFi dongle to your new desktop for $10 to $40 depending on your needs. Hope this helps

Needing a wide-angle zoom lens in the 16 - 28mm range and after doing some research I purchased the Tokina 16-28. Knowing that it would be returnable if unsatisfactory I purchased it from Amazon. It proved to be quite satisfactory for my purposes both times that I used it. The third time out it failed giving me an error message at any F stop smaller than 3.5. Given the fact that it had been 3 months since purchasing it, I was unable to return it to Amazon and discovered that the Tokina warranty applied only to lenses purchased from authorized Tokina dealers. Subsequently, I took it to a highly regarded local repair shop that informed me that Tokina does not sell repair parts to independent repair facilities and so it would have to be sent to the Tokina factory for an estimate. I suspect that the estimate will be more than I care to spend for this particular lens given the fact that it failed after two shoots. Lesson learned. No more Tokina.

Most likely user error. Or the lens or camera contacts need cleaning. Unlikely a lens in repose would up and break.

The OP never said what camera he has or if he tried this.

But that dosen’t stop the bashing of several good companies…most likely because of errors by the user and having nothing to do with the topic at hand. Sheesh.

Bye.
