I have an 18-300 - its sharper than my 18-200. Possibly not as sharp as a good 70-300 but then you'll be forever changing lenses. Checking through my library I find 95% of my shots are at less than 70mm equiv.

I love the 70-300 af-p fx on a dx camera. Light and sharp.

I have the AFP 70-300 non vr and the AFS 70 300 vr, The AFS version weighs almost twice as much as the AFP, that along with price would be good reasons to go with the AFP, but I would definitely get the AFP VR.

I finally upgraded to a Nikon D7500 and I would like to know opinions about these three lenses. Nikon 70x300 any of the 3 styles, Nikon 18 x300, Tamron 18x400. I have a Nikon 18 x200 vr and I'm very satisfied with it. I'd like some extra reach and still get some good sharpness. Thanks in advance.

Nikon 70-300, of course.
Believe it or not, the following one gets tons of positive reviews.

I have the Nikkor 18-300 3.5 -5.6 G ED lens on my D300 and it covers most of my needs without needing to change lenses. I would recommend it as an all around lens.

You already have a very good all around lens in the Nikon 18-200 VR. It will serve you well in your new camera.
I have the 70-300 VR version, the original, a lens that is excellent and sharp. It will give you the extra reach you want.

Beware the non VR version of the 70-300mm AF-P. They are commonly available used at very low prices. You really want the VR with a lens of that length.

The latest/current 70-300 FX lens will be the best optically and is the best build quality and resale value.

Have you looked into the Sigma 18-300 Contemporary Lens. It's really a fantastic lens. I have one for my D7500 and am extremely happy with it. It pretty much does it all.

I have the same Nikon lens and love it.
I also have a Tamron 100-400. Have only had it less than a week and the sun hasn’t been cooperating, so only used it a few times. Still not sure about the image quality at the long end. Close up is great. But so is my Nikon.

I found that the Tamron 18-400 was good out to about 350 and then a little soft. It still gives a better reach than anything else and it’s not awful out to 400. It’s definitely heavier than my old Nikon 18-200.

I would buy the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-P VR . More info on the five versions is here:

As others have noted, the Nikkor 70mm-300mm AF-P lens is a great option. I have the FX version (better build) and love this lens because it's light and handles well, focuses quickly and silently, and is relatively inexpensive. It will pair nicely with the D7500.
