I call BS. The entire camera industry is struggling with a parts shortage right now. Everyone is delaying releases with the same excuse about a lot of pre-orders. I think they should just acknowledge that there’s a shortage of parts!

Same thing happened just after the announcement of the Z 105mm macro lens.

Uhh'er Sippyjug ordered one immediately from Nikon and was lucky enough that his was included in the first shipment.

And I don't think it's BS. Everyone is aware that there is a worldwide shortage of computer chips. So manufacturers allocate their supply based on expected demand. If demand exceeds those expectations, there will be delays.

They did acknowledge the parts supply shortage due to such heavy demand. I read their statement on Nikon Rumors.

You could have summed it all up with a single word, "Pandemic".

I suggest that we all just take a breath and let it go. This camera is not directed to or intended for anyone who is a member of this forum. The fact that none (or at least few) here can't believe that anyone would want to buy one is completely immaterial. It is targeted to the future market, not the past. That market is decidedly younger and more style-conscious than all but two or three folks that I can think of here...

Count me in as one of the two or three old folks. I'm buying it just for the looks. I have the Df and this new camera will match with it. Love retro looking cameras as a matter of fact I still have my very first camera I ever bought in 1981. Love the looks of my Chinon CE- 4S.

I'm not discounting demand out surpassing supply due to part shortages. But it seems like Nikon is delaying the initial shipment just days before the release date.

I ordered one for a few reasons. One, because it will look nice sitting on the shelf next to my only remaining film camera, an FM2. Two, because I like the idea of the articulating screen which will be a back saver at times.. Three, because you can completely bury the screen into the back of the camera when not needed and avoid all the smudges. The back of the camera will look like the back of the camera.

It could very well be that they have problem making it. But the combo looks a lot nicer with the 28 than the zoom

Count me as another old timer who pre-ordered the Zfc w/28. Love the retro look.

Larry sometimes makes 'statements' with nothing to back them up. He often tells us what 'most' people will do. Many of his threads should start with,"This is my opinion, with no basis in fact".

But, in fairness to Larry, apparently Nikon had no idea how popular this camera will be. My guess is that it will be more interesting to us old timers. The younger set "might" be more interested in advancements in cell phone cameras.

Time will tell.

Actually, my statements around the new Nikon camera are not based on my opinion. Because I had the same questions about that camera as I have read here, I polled a number of young people, primarily young women, to test my theory. The results were surprising, in that a significant majority of these young people were very interested in the new camera. Three of them, all women, later indicated to me that they intended to either order one of the cameras or to purchase one when they became available in stores. That's 10%, which is a pretty high number.

So no...I do not make things up, and I do not presume to know. But I do spend a lot more time with the young people who are critical to the future to camera manufacturers (and a lot of other companies) than just about anyone else here. And I do recognize that in the long run, satisfying what I might want or need is not what is going to determine the survival of Nikon or any other company, just like satisfying what just about any other member here is not going to be what makes a difference in the long run. And I do claim to have at least an inkling of an idea of what the younger folks are thinking, even when it doesn't match what I might think or want.

Much as we might not want to face it and admit it...the future is not all about us. Not any of us. Not me, not you, not anyone over the age of 40.

So based on talking to a group of mostly young women, you came up with this:

"This camera is not directed to or intended for anyone who is a member of this forum."

How many middle aged or older men & women who are interested in photography did you discuss this with?
