We have a lot of bats that come out in the early evening. They help keep the flying bugs to a minimum. People here put bat houses in the trees and some buildings to attract them.

I paid over $50.00 for a bat house a few years back. We followed the directions and put it up on the west side of my house against the white shingles at over 20' up. No bats showed up.

What colors repel mosquitoes?
To save you time, here is a list of the colors that attract Mosquitoes and shades that they find utterly disgusting. Keep reading if you want to find out why these colours work, the experiments that Scientists undertook to find out and how many deaths the insect causes per year.

Blue
Yellow
Khaki
Olive
Beige
What color clothing attracts mosquitoes?
Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors that are going to replicate shadows, these are ones you want to avoid as well as a few others listed below:

Thermacell????? I'll Google that one. I use a type of green colored coils that you light and let smolder that sorta works as long as you don't stray too far from the coils. They are dirt cheap but they do break easily so you have to be careful getting them apart. Can't figure out how to attach one to me without getting burned. When I get away from the coils they gang up on me.

My wife just clips it to her belt or clothing and turns it on. Never notices it and like you I hate putting chemicals on my skin.

Avon Skin So Soft + water. Mix 50/50. Shake well before using. I use a small squirt bottle to apply. A little goes a long, long way. Have been using this mix for over 40 years.

I'll click on that as soon as I answer some more posts. The prices vary a lot on Amazon from cheap to sky high.
Thanks for sending.

I am going to try using some on my skin along with some Skin So Soft by Avon. I'll also remember to wear long pants, socks and shoes (not flip flops)

I ordered some yesterday from Amazon and should receive it Sunday. I will use this in addition to the coils that I light and burn. The coils seem to work as long as I don't stray too far from them, but sometimes ya just like to take a walk, and that's when they get me.

Used to be an ad for a 'sure fire' end to mosqitoes, $1. They sent you two pieces of wood, with instructions: 'Place mosquito on wood A,............"

By the time I place it, it will have already met it's maker. I thought about getting one of those shock swatters but knowing my luck I'd get carried away and swat myself, missing the mosquito entirely.

I use Thermocell products. Runs on a small propane cartridge. Has a replaceable pad with insect repelling ability. I have bow hunted early season and always use this to stay unbitten. Covers an area about 15 foot in diameter around the device. I got one for my wife and she takes it out in the garden with her when she's working out there

I saw some online at Cabella's. Is one kind/size better than another? They vary a lot in price.
My brother remembers something from the 50's and early 60's that you wore on your belt that emitted a sound that was supposed to repel mosquitoes. I don't suppose you can still find those though.

Does anyone know if this gadget really works to repel or kill mosquitoes?
I don't trust the "reviews" I read on their sell site. I want to hear from real, live, human bait.
Is there anything that DOES work, other than metal armor? I don't care what it costs.
Want to chime in? Let's hear it.

Thanks scooter. That sums up what I was thinking all along. I noticed they didn't mention those green coils which are moderately effective as long as you stay close to them. The one fool proof way to avoid bites is to wear long pants, socks, shoes, long sleeved buttoned up shirt and bee veil. I'm using a prescription allergy med to keep from scratching and to help me sleep. I was wearing shorts for a few minutes in the evening when I got attacked from behind. Never again!
