Down here there's two notorious viruses that use mozzies as a vector:

1. Dengue Fever

2. Ross River Fever

They are not fatal; usually, but can require hospitalization.

So as you can imagine, we need to avoid mozzies.

I can vouch for this:

It comes in aerosol cans too, but I reckon the roll on is the best

Sawyer's makes a product you spray on your clothes and let dry. The last time I was out in the woods of Alaska, I used a mesh over-jacket with hood that I had treated with this product and it worked really well. You can get it on Amazon. When you take off the jacket, put it in a large zip lock bag and it will last all season.

I would consider that if they attacked my clothing. Unfortunately, I have disturbed a nest and have been bitten over most of my body, including the tips of my ear. They even found some places they weren't supposed to be able to reach.

Tried most of those, including some 100% pure Eucalyptus oil that I ordered from a drug store. The smell alone would take your breath away. I prefer not to apply chemicals to my skin, especially since I have scratched some bites into the raw.

I drink apple cider vinegar every day (it's delicious actually).
Mosquitos ignore me.

I don't think I'm tough enough to drink it straight. I would consider applying full strength to my skin though. Wouldn't that be just as effective?

It seems like the traditional bug zapper except that it's quiet because it doesn't electrocute the bugs. It attracts them and pulls them down into a chamber. One thing I've always wondered about these devices is the fact that it attracts mosquitos. Don't you want to do the opposite? I can imagine one gal approaching the tempting light, "Wow! That's a great-looking light! Let me check it out, but first, I see some tasty humans down there. I'd better have a meal before I check on that light."

I can't seem to find any personal reviews from anyone who has tried it. My understanding is that it is not a zapper. The idea is to lure them to the light and hope and pray they don't require a meal before they reach it. It wouldn't be the first $39.00 I've wasted. I don't know how they found a way up my pants legs.

I used to have a zapper, and realized I was actually attracting them.
They also kill lots of innocent insects as well.
I finally shelved it.

Where I live there doesn't seem to be any beneficial bugs. Haven't seen a Lady bug or Praying Mantis in years. We have a lot of sheep flies, gnats, and a few other nasties.

Thanks Waxhouse. I had forgotten all about that one. I will try to locate some and give it a try.

A bit of advice from someone who learned the hard way. Insect repellent is also a fantastic solvent so DO NOT get it on your camera gear or like I did on the dark grey leather seats of the car. It stripped the color out of the leather so I now have spill marks about three shades lighter where spilled.

Another time my hands were still damp with Deep Woods Off and it made the rubber grip of my D810 gummy.

I have tried Deep Woods, Cutter and a few others but I don't want to apply the chemicals to my skin, some which is broken from scratching. If it itches------I scratch! No danger of getting it on my camera or car seat.

Can't apply anything to my skin at this time due to some raw areas from scratching. We have Zika here, in addition to a few others.

Does anyone know if this gadget really works to repel or kill mosquitoes?
I don't trust the "reviews" I read on their sell site. I want to hear from real, live, human bait.
Is there anything that DOES work, other than metal armor? I don't care what it costs.
Want to chime in? Let's hear it.

My wife got a thermacell that you load wicks into. She's a mosquito magnet and she says it works. I always take her with me on hikes so the mosquitos don't bother me.

Yes, applying it to your skin will work as well.
ACV is very very good for you though...mosquito problems aside.

We have a lot of bats that come out in the early evening. They help keep the flying bugs to a minimum. People here put bat houses in the trees and some buildings to attract them.

Thermacell????? I'll Google that one. I use a type of green colored coils that you light and let smolder that sorta works as long as you don't stray too far from the coils. They are dirt cheap but they do break easily so you have to be careful getting them apart. Can't figure out how to attach one to me without getting burned. When I get away from the coils they gang up on me.
