I vote for number two. But then, I read a lot and am left handed.

#1, why not 100% sure but this image scans better looking from left to right which is the way we write and read English and following the lines of the barn etc. they go high left to low right which seems a natural flow to follow. The other when scanning left to right you are going from low to high following the lines - like you are climbing against the flow. So #1 just has a better "feel" to me.

Certain "flows" appeal to the majority of people.

I prefer #1. My eye seems to be down right to left naturally and comfortably, whereas, with #2, my eye seems to struggle across the scene. Both images are good.

This makes sense. After reading this, I went back and looked again, and I agree with you.

On a recent post I made of an iris flower image, the idea was advanced to try flipping the image to achieve a different emotional impact. I tried it, and it worked on that image for me. So....

Here, I have a preference as to which image I feel has the most impact and interest, but I would like to hear from you all as to which you prefer, and why. Or, if you feel there's no real difference, please let me know that, too! Thanks for taking the time to help me on this little query...

For me, either way, it's a nice shot

I will make sure not to let my wife know someone agreed with me. She will accuse me of fantasizing. After all only once since 1973 has she ever outright told me she was wrong after we disagreed. And she says I am a control freak from 35 years of having my own kingdom in a classroom. She is used to being "large and in charge" since she is a retired OR Charge Nurse - the ones most surgeons make an extra effort to stay on their good side.

#1 and I am right-handed. The roof just looks better.

Well, as I might have suspected, different horses for different courses (pun intended!) Thanks for posting everyone, particularly with the explanation as to why the particular choice, or no particular choice.

I personally like #1, it visually looks more "right" and balanced to me. Interesting the point re: being left- or right-handed affecting the choice. Hmmm.... and, so all are satisfied, here is the original image in color.

My preference is #2. I find the roof slant from left to right more comfortable. Also the horses are moving to the right. This is a very nice shot either way!

I picked my favorite, read the comments, viewed the original color version. I initially chose #1 as it just feels right. I changed my pick to the original color version as that got my Wowwww response

I like #1, it just looks more natural to me. I can't explain why.

The "flow" of the roof sloping downward to the right.

I'm with 'shadow for much the same reason. In our culture, we "read" from-left-to-right. So for me, images that "flow" L-to-R work best. Similarly, I like "ending-up" with the white horse rather than the dark one.

#2 In our western culture we read from left to right, we’re used to seeing movement left to right. . Reading left to right the horses are moving in a more familiar direction, when we follow the roof line and it leads into the frame, but in #1 following the roof line leads us out. This is more a cultural (and subconscious) thing and people from the East (Asia, et al) might be inclined toward #1. I’d like to hear from those of that part of the world.

#2 clarification
In the Western world foreground curbside traffic moves left to right, finish line race movement is left to right, baseline movement is left to right, and as mentioned we read left to right. However, in the Eastern world camel races are seen right to left. So much of how we “read” a phot is subconsciously culturally driven.
