This is such an odd perspective. Consider if you applied the "get it right before you sell it" rule to all of the things you purchase. Should Henry Ford have kept his cars off the market until he "got it right" with, say, an automatic transmission? But then, he still wouldn't have got it right, since they would still run on fossil fuels and he'd have to wait for a fully electric version. And the computer I'm sitting in front of now, should IBM have waited until they got it right before producing the first pc? I mean, what was with those stupid floppy disks? 64K? You gotta be kidding.

Seriously, you seem to be saying that a quality product should not be improved. How much sense would that make? We can each decide whether or not a "new improved" version is worth the money.

I don't think your analogy is valid.
It's more like should Henry Ford have kept his cars off the market until they didn't spontaneously go into reverse, or konk out when the ambient temperature hit 80 degrees, or when it starts to rain only turn left but not right? And should IBM have kept their computers off the market until the floppy drives quit working after 45 minutes at which time they required a cool down, or when they used the full 64K and not just 32?

They indeed kept their products off the market until the technology of their time worked. The OP isn't talking about technological leaps, but releasing bug-ridden product and then making customers pay for the fixes. At least that's my take on his complaint. "Get it right before you sell it."

ALL software development is NEVER 100% bug free when initially released. The most comprehensive in house testing in the world can capture most, but not all bugs. That only happens in the real world when used by thousands+ of users.
Now … do a lot of companies do a cr***y job of testing before releasing it to the public? Yes, but that’s another story.

Come to think of it if you get it right before you sell it then you won't be rich. Imagine if your software only sell version 1.0. Nobody paid for any upgrade.

Being rich is relative.

If you only needed to buy one of, instead of 20 of, you would be rich with less money.

The manufacturer and its workers would make less money... but they would need less
money, because they in turn would be buying one of, instead of 20 of.

In fact they and you would be better off as there would be less spent on waste
disposal.

Also less finite resources would be used... Given the ratio of available resources
to the need of those resources; those resources would become cheaper according
to the laws of supply and demand... making us even "richer" imho.

IMHO it is time to bring this post to an end. The OP has been thoroughly and apparently unfairly chastised by many comments for not knowing the unwritten protocols for comments on UHH. He has apologized for his unwitting transgression of the sacrosanct unwritten rules of posting on UHH. It is past time for this post to come to an end as nothing is to be gained by any additional put-downs of the OP.

There's nothing unwritten about ALL CAPS, being covered both in the site FAQs and general online behavior. Prior posts in this thread actually referenced these written site rules, so to get to page 11 and still be unsure raises still more issues.

- Do not make posts in all capital letters. This includes topic titles. (You might consider using your browser's zoom feature to increase the size of the font in case you are experiencing difficulties reading/writing.)

How can you say you get free upgrades when you pay an annual fee??

What I mean is that I don’t pay for each upgrade; but you are right. It’s part of the cost of a subscription.

Oh, his first post was complaining about the site rules regarding all caps.

No, his complaint was not "about the site rules regarding all caps", rather his first post was in all caps, but his complaint was about software not being made bug-free before being sold, and later when the bugs are fixed, the user is forced to pay for the corrected version. Note that the title of his past was "Get it right before you sell it."
The second poster and several others then piled on, complaining about his use of all caps, siting the site rules.
AND he apologized for using all caps on page 2 after he read the site rules. [caps intended]

OK, guess I should not try to read the screen when I have my glasses off trying to clean them. It is amazing how those lens cleaning wipes have a whole range of smudges and blurs all their own. Even warm water and soap sometimes don't work since the clean cotton cloth to dry them after rinsing often has residue from the laundry that makes smears.

Contacts work, but are too much trouble most of the time. My eye doctor does give me a few each exam, samples that sales people left at her office, she has a BIG drawer full. She wears contacts while working but takes them out and puts on her glasses at the end of the day to let her eyes sort of rest and get some fresh air. I use them when I am doing some intense photo work, they don't get in the way with the view finder like my glasses.

It’s a shame that programmers an the other workers want to get paid. They really should work for free, just like you did.
I think is obscene that car manufacturers don’t replace the tires, brakes and other parts when they wear out.
