I scanned to TIFF at 4800 dpi 48 bit colour then saved that. Opened in Affinity photo and did my adjustments and edits and saved the .afphoto file. Then I exported a JPG of approx 3000 x 2000 pixels as the final product.

I’ve read of that setup too. Seems to get good results. Thanks.

Yes. I've done it. 1:1 Canon EF 100 macro IS..... I use a cardboard box to set a 4 slide mount on and set it on a laptop set to a white background. Better than directly on the laptop.

Have yet to do it with my 45 mp Canon R5, but no slide scanner could match that resolution, I imagine.

How many slides do you need to scan ??
I HAD one of these - but only needed to scan 200 slides. When done, I sold it for what I bought it for.

Some double-feeds, but otherwise it did a good job
Purchased used for around $500. Sold a year later for the same.

I'm duplicating slides with an ES-1 connected via a 45mm length of extension tubes to the front end of a Nikkor 50mm f1.8D. Rear end of lens is connected to my tripod mounted D90 with 20mm + 12mm of extension tubes. Autofocus and autoexposure are fully active. The rig is facing a white wall. I use powerful LED light sources aimed at the wall for the autofocus to work properly and expose with a Godox TT685 flash, set to TTL , also aimed at the wall. The camera color temperature is set to 'Flash' and native ISO 200. The flash exposure eliminates any blurring from potential vibration. Stops between f7.1 to f11 usually work well unless the slide is particularly dense. Histograms are checked after each shot is case I need to open the aperture further to properly expose. I noticed that I get even more than 1:1 if I adjust the ES-1 slider and/or the length to the front end extension tubes. The limitation is the focusing ability of the lens.
For negative duplication, Amazon sells a negative adapter compatible with the ES-1 for $25.
I'm very happy with the results using the Nikkor 50mm D lens plus rear mounted extension tubes. It is an economical alternative to using true macro lenses. The f1.8 is also a bonus in terms of easier focusing, since the macros are only good for f2.8 or f3.5. The Nikkor 50mm f1.8G would work equally well if your camera does not have a built-in focusing motor.

I have Epson V500 Photo. I scanned 5000 slides, some go back as far as 1956. It scans 4 at a time. I was very happy with the results.

I've also had good luck with the Epson V550 Photo, and also a Wolverine SNaP 20MP as well. It's small and quick and also scans small prints.

I am very pleased with the performance of my Epson V-600. And I am even happier since I started using SilverFast 9. Take a look on You Tube.

Thanks! Better get started on this project! Apparently it’s going to take some time! 😉

A lot depends on how "automated" you want to be. Some older Nikon (and others) have slide feeders that can do 50 or more slides at a time. Also, a Digital Ice feature on a scanner and applicable software make life easier for automated dust and dirt removal. Vuescan and Silverfast software are much improved over software supplied with most scanners. If the scanner is no longer something you want after the slides are scanned then consider a more expensive/better/automated scanner and resell online when completed. Epson and Canon make good flatbed scanners and Nikon and others make excellent photo specific scanners. Lots of good ideas on the Hog.

Thanks. Very helpful. I just discovered another cache of slides here—still in their boxes! Life got really busy when our babies were small. Playing catch-up now! Where did the time go?! Ha!
