Can you recommend a slide scanner? This is for family slides, not a professional application. Several in a recent ‘best of’ article are discontinued. Considering Epson 550 or 600. Thanks.

You could always shoot a copy with your DSLR. Depending on what model you have, you could use one of the slide duplicator attachments, or if you have a macro lens, a good light table and tripod would allow you to copy them.

You're on the right path with Epson. I've used two, currently the V850. I think this model is quite a bit more than you need. The two you're looking at will be quite good choices. Additionally, I use Silverfast Software for driving the scanner. It provides a lot of adjustments for really great scans.

Jones, when you shoot your slides, as you recommend, is the original EXIF data retained or is the data now from the shot? The reason for asking is that I have a zillion slides as well as a lot of film to copy and am leaning toward your recommendation.

I have Epson V500 Photo. I scanned 5000 slides, some go back as far as 1956. It scans 4 at a time. I was very happy with the results.

The EXIF data would be from the DSLR shot of the slide.
