I have a v600 and have scanned thousands of slides, negatives and photos. I have even scanned some documents Thru ocr with great success.

I have an Epson V600 and am perfectly happy with it. Also, look into using VueScan software instead of what comes with the scanner. It gives more options for output.

V550 or V600 basically the same and great. I recently scanned over 600 old slides. The color restoration worked really well but other forms of automatic correction like dust and scratches are best done in your post software. I found dust removal would remove buttons etc.
Take a bit of time to really clean the slides, it will save a lot of time in post.
I use affinity photo and it is brilliant even for me who is just learning the basics. Check out some free affinity photo tutorials on YouTube such as one that gives 10 steps to improve any photo. That is all you will need to bring out the best in most of your scans.

Do I understand correctly that the ES-1 slide copier will not work with a 55Micro f:2.8 and PK-13 extension tubes on a Nikon D7000 due to crop factor of the camera? Wouldn't you know I have the micro and PK13 but no FX camera!

A lot depends on how "automated" you want to be. Some older Nikon (and others) have slide feeders that can do 50 or more slides at a time. Also, a Digital Ice feature on a scanner and applicable software make life easier for automated dust and dirt removal. Vuescan and Silverfast software are much improved over software supplied with most scanners. If the scanner is no longer something you want after the slides are scanned then consider a more expensive/better/automated scanner and resell online when completed. Epson and Canon make good flatbed scanners and Nikon and others make excellent photo specific scanners. Lots of good ideas on the Hog.

Thank you for all these tips! How does one clean slides? Will one of those large lens cleaner blowers be sufficient? The slides have been in carousels in boxes for years.
