first off, I am not a computer person. I have been trying for days to get the edges I want but no luck. I want to keep the red blanket but every thing else that is not a cat I would like removed. I can select and remove the background but it looks like used scissors, the edges are that sharp. In the past days I have worked with at least 12 tutorials, Ps, utube etc. I guess I just don't have the computer knowledge to follow someone who is talking a mile a minute, I get 5or6 steps behind and I am lost. Please don't send me photos that you have done and they are exactly what I want, I know you can do it. I would like to know how you do it. Oh yes, I know the orange hairs in the middle of the right side are part of the cat but they are gone too. Thanks in advance. REJ.

First what editing software do you use. There a bunch of us who can probably help you no matter what. You might want to also post this in Post Processing and Digital Images. That's where the real experts live.

I was more thinking into the line of a JPG out of your raw. What you offer at the moment has been edited.

I don't think you use Affinity, but Affinity has several good selection tools. It's not always perfect but generally works quite well. After I do a rough selection I use their refine too. That is quite good at catching hair or leaves against the sky or spaces of light within a tree. It also allows you to smooth edges and also feather edges.

Hopefully other will respond that are better than I am. I usually struggle getting an edge that looks natural.

Edges of selections show the degree of professionalism of your work. Believe me. It is what stands out to a pro.

Always use a mask when cutting out. This way you can soften the edges of your selection by feathering the mask. And as a bonus, you can not only erase with it but you can add back in.

I have affinity now. the select tool that I use is the brush and that shows a double line and only the space between the double line reacts to edit, fill, white, not the whole area of the selection. The space between the double line can be changed from 1 to 4000 pix. I have tried 1 space and outlined an area and tried edit, fill, white and nothing happens to the selected area. Can you tell me what I am not doing right. REJ.

I don't have it but am assuming that Affinity and other programs like it don't use a layer based system along with Layer masks and that is not helping with a solution in this case.

Based on the version you posted elsewhere, it seems like you'll have a little problem due to the cardboard box obscuring part of the cat's body. But, you can clone in some fur to remedy theat.

All the ranting and raving has come clear. Another day of looking and trying, my old eyes see a small little white spot on rectangle selecting tool. I clicked that and I had to laugh. Sorry for all my bitching. REJ.
