In New York, and I'm sure in other states, it's illegal to have anything interfering with your view out through the windshield. This can lead to a traffic stop with tragic results.

In NC, I often see people driving around with their dogs sitting or standing in their lap! What a bunch of i***ts!

Follow the Officers orders and don't put the officer in danger and everything will go fine.

Sounds like common sense. Wonder how many people obey that law?

Unfortunately everything doesn’t always go fine for some people. True, a lot is brought on by trying to resist or run, but from what I have seen, these police escalate things by their demeanor and tone of voice.

A traffic stop for an air freshener h*****g from the rear view mirror, illegal in some jurisdictions, resulted in the police shooting a young black man to death. The officer thought she had pulled her Tazer but had pulled her gun.

I have a question for the former or current police on the forum: Do you find it credible that an officer with 26 years on the force could accidentally draw her firearm rather than her taser and shoot it while thinking she is shooting a taser?

I’m not a policeman but I don’t think there’s such a thing as an "accident" with a gun. It was officer negligence. I saw a male officer fumbling to put cuffs on the suspect. That officer was quite a bit bigger than the suspect. When the suspect realized he wasn’t cuffed yet he panicked and dove back into his car. In the struggle, another officer drew her gun instead of her Tazer, shouted "Tazer Tazer Tazer" and shot him.
