Wow quixdraw. I've only been in Sharp-tail country in late fall. I've read about their mating display and now I have seen it.

Thank you! Would never have gotten it without the invitation.

You did great, QD. Superb images of a difficult to capture mating dance.

Thanks very much! If I get another opportunity, I will get more of the action, learned a trick or two this time.

Excellent and interesting set quixdraw, love the portrait shot #5. We have lots of red grouse on the North Yorkshire moors.

Thank you, Sylvia! Have to look up Red Grouse!

Too many years ago, I drove to a lek near Medicine Lake in NE Montana. I hardly dared to breathe.
The slighted noise sent the grouse flying away from the blind. A couple landed on the roof.
When I opened the door to leave so did the grouse. I had to walk about a half mile from the parking area.

As long as we were in the car, we could even drive near them, windows open, camera snapping, no problem. We were warned they would fly if we got out. Next time, at the end of the session, I'll give it a try and see if I can get one flying.

Really nice, QD. Used to hunt Ruffed Grouse in MN, later in E. WA, where Sharptails were said to exist, but never saw one. I no longer hunt, other than with DSLR Great to see they still exist, I think they were sometimes referred to as "prairie chickens." Impressive capture!

Thank You! Yes, Greater Prairie Chickens. Probably a couple of dozen in and around this site. Fascinating Dance.
