Last night we were invited out to see the Sharptail Grouse do their Spring mating dance. This involved getting up at zero dark thirty, taking care of the dogs' needs, loading the gear and driving. We got there a little later than would have been ideal, the sun had just come up. These are popular game birds, and wonderful to watch, so our friends hold this opportunity close. I brought several cameras, but ended up with the usual combination, D7200 and AF S Nikkor 200-500 5.6 E ED. I did not need the telextender since as long as you stay in a vehicle, you can be quite close, though the available angles are challenging, as is the early light. i took a lot more photos than is my usual habit. Here are a few.

Looks like a pretty challenging venture but you’ve done very well, QD! Love#5 among excellent others!

Thanks very much! They were very cooperative and paid no attention. Light and angles were a small problem but workable. If I get to do it another time, I'll plan a better spot in advance.
