An amateur shows you all his photos, a pro only shows you her best.
That’s true, but that doesn’t address keeping or discarding photos. To think all photos have to be works of art is to miss the wide spectrum of why we photograph and why some photographs are relevant and keepers despite not being totally sharp, totally balanced, or with excellent tone or contrast. Back in the early 60’s I was just a kid with a Kodak Instamatic. I had no idea of what a good photo was, I just liked taking pictures. I still have some of those awful shots because while not being great photos, they capture a place and time that no longer exists and will not return. I have photos along Main Street in Memphis showing shops (some local, some national chains), drug stores, and department stores that left as commerce moved to the suburbs. The importance of place, time, or human situations are sometimes more important than a perfect shot.

What I'm talking about is posting more pictures of the same subject to the point that it dilutes the impact of the one or two best images. I spend more time looking at a thread that has just one or two really nice pictures, rather than a thread that has a couple of really great images along with eight more mediocre pictures of the same subject.
Just something to consider. I think it is called editing our work.

I try to limit my posts to five or so images.
If your photos are not good enough, get better at using the <Delete> key.

I've noticed the same thing. A good many will post numerous photos, in some cases of the same subject. Usually, there is one that is outstanding. That's the only one, one should post.

Partially true, I agree too many photos in general. That said, at times someone will post a few asking for opinions of which is "best" which simply generates volumes of opinions and seldom an answer.

Posting 10 max is fine. I also see people posting near duplicates of the same thing, images out of focus, slanted or uneven, underexposed or overexposed, etc.

I've noticed and always wondered why when posting images of the same subject someone would include a mediocre at best image or images along with those of stellar quality.
Sometimes those of us who would like to advance need some some advice from you "pros" to help our editing skills. This is a place to get that. I have posted one photograph six times and guess what? Responses as to which one was the best varied from one response to the next. When reasons for the response were given I use that for my consideration the next time. It is called learning not just exhibiting--there are other places on the net to just exhibit. Does any one really think that their choice is the only "stellar" one?

OTOH Bill, posting several or more images provides a broader appeal as no two people have identical tastes, and those of lesser appeal (to you) may emphasize the others.
It also demonstrates that you can produce consistent images and not just get lucky once in awhile.
Get rid of all those weak links in your photo display chain.
But for some that may feel like disowning some of their children. . . .
Which of my photographs is my favorite? The couple I'll keep from the thousand I'll shoot on my digital tomorrow.
