Synchrony Bank issues credit to people with lower credit ratings than the big banks and thus charges more interest

Actually, the interest rate is pretty standard for store-brand cards:
Amazon.com Store Card or Amazon Prime Store Card accounts, standard variable purchase APR is *28.24%*
Kohl's, Macy's, JC Penney, all in the 29% range
Lord & Taylor was 28%
TJMaxx 28%
Game Stop 28%
Staples 29%
Zales 30%
Big Lots 30%
Apple Card As of 01/01/2019, Variable Purchase APR is 28.24%.
Gap - For new accounts: As of 01/01/2019, Variable Purchase APR is 28.24%.
Adorama 29.99%
Newegg 29.99%

I'm sure the program is initiated to gain more customers who will use it in places other than B&H.

Neither of B&H's cards (Payboo or Finance) can be used to buy anything from anyone other than B&H.

Any experience in the B&H Photo's PayBoo card? Is it a good idea to have/use one? What is the catch?

Get one! No gimmick. Save the tax. On a large purchase you will save hundreds of dollars. Small purchases add up as well.

Big bank cards charge less. It's academic for me since we never pay CC interest anyway.

I didn't know payboo couldn't be used elsewhere. Obviously I never tried!

It’s a GREAT idea, especially for a big ticket item. I saved $200 in addition to the $100 off sale price on a recent lens purchase!

However, the sales tax burden is left to you to pay your state. If you are in business it's a must-do. Actually, it's always a must-do.

Not True! The sales tax is paid by B&H as on any other sale. You have no further responsibility.

What is wrong with paying the sales tax? Roads need to be repaired, education needs to be constantly improved, ambulances need to run. What is wrong? Taxes keep societies functioning.

The sales tax IS PAID! B&H and Payboo are paying it. So instead of getting back the 2 or 3% that some credit cards give, these two companies have teamed up to pay the sales tax for you (you get credited for the amount of sales tax that is applied at the time of purchase). In my case, purchases at my local stores are taxed 9%. So Synchrony Bank and B&H pay this for me. Thank you
Synchrony and B&H (don't know which of these pay what amounts).
One could argue we should support our local photography stores. However B&H have a number of policies (like the ability to return a lens and camera for full refunds if one doesn't find them adequate) which my local stores don't. So prefer B&H.
PS. True story: When I bought my first expensive lens almost 10 years ago from our local photography store, I asked what the return policy was. The salesman said, like with a car, as soon as I walked out the door, they would take it back as "used equipment" at a steep discount from the price I paid. So I switched my business to B&H (that store subsequently went bankrupt).

Positive. I have spent $$$$ and appreciate the savings. No catches. I do not use the card for anything but B&H purchases.

It’s a great idea, as long as you pay it off each month. I’ve saved hundreds of dollars that way.

Have had it since they started. No "catch", use it, they credit you with the cost of sales tax (in California that is substantial) and I pay my credit card off each month. I know people who have bought very expensive lenses and cameras with it, no problem (so far haven't made any big purchases myself since I got the card, just smaller ones). The only "catch", you have to buy from B&H to get the sales tax credit (can use the credit card anywhere). And if you don't pay it off each month, there is a big interest charge (like all credit cards).

I agree. I have saved so much money this way. They will eat Adorama's lunch unless they find out how to do the same.
